Wednesday: Untraditional Post

Well, as I write this I'm sick enough to be staying home from school, so I get to write this post on Wednesday! So remember Monday's post, the No New News post... Well I found some stuff on Sportslogos.net's Sochi Olympic thread, showing some of the new jerseys coming out, and since we haven't had many concepts coming in lately, I decided to dedicate a post to all the new sweater that have been unreported by Icethetics, Sportslogos.net, and HJC. Lets dive in!

Team Japan Woman's Hockey (By Nike)
We start off the jerseys with a team Japan jersey, first found by our own writer, Alan John Herbert! So lets start looking at this. Ok. I'm really trying to find anything positive about this. The font for the "Japan" mark looks cool... Really though. This design is pretty bad. The socks look horrible and so does every thing else, but at least it has hem striping. Rating 2.5/10

Team Belarus Men's Hockey
Found by Sportslogos.net user Vman
Sadly one of the best that Nike's done yet, and we won't see it at the Olympics. This is also apparently the new template for the Nike jerseys. I find the fact that the yoke cuts off at the back, like the Stadium Series yokes, pretty odd. But, I seriously think these aren't that bad. The hem striping inspired by the flag of Belarus is cool, and the arm stripes are simple enough to work. It just needs something a little more. Rating 7.4/10

Team Latvia Men's Hockey
Found by Sportslogos.net user Vman
Another one of Nike's better jersey's, is Latvia. The hem stripes would be a little too much here, so I'm happy for once that Nike left them out. The striping is close enough to look like Latvia's flag, to well... make it look like Latvia's flag. As always the coat of arms looks awesome, and really this is Nike's best work. Maybe a touch of Silver would make it better. Rating 8/10

Think Nike could have done better? No that's a stupid question. Anyway tell us what you think of these jerseys in the comments!

Tuesday: Hurricanes in Minnesota???

So. How's your Tuesday? I'm writing this while watching Duck Dynasty and looking at Evansville Rivermen stats off two straight losses. We lead the Altoona Express 14.8 to -4 after one day, So I think we're doing better. My computer is broken and I'm writing this on my iPad, I will have the competition stuff up as soon as possible. Sorry. We have some good concepts today with a talented designers. So let's go!

Carolina Hurricanes [Justin Sulpico]

Justin Sulpico brings us a boxy Canes concept. I like simple concepts. Simple is the new... What? I wish you would have kept it simple. The red stripe could be narrower, the black one thicker. I would have outlined the black one on the home jersey with white. Though the hurricane flag aspect on the jerseys is interesting, I would have toned it down hella lot. Mabye have it as a captaincy patch. With too much it looks youth leaguey.

Concept rating 5.6/10, with the changes made a easy 8/10

Minnesota Wild [Matt McElroy]

I'm honestly so fed up with Minnesota's identity crisis that if the two jerseys match, I will like them 100X better. I might be exaggerating a little, but the Wild need matching jerseys. These don't exactly match, but they are the same design. I like the vintage white jersey, I would have added a vintage white stripe on the pants. I would also have used the font from the Wild's new white jersey, and made the logo 4% larger. A small but big change.

A nice Minn concept with minimal flaws. A 9/10

Monday: Lack of News

Well we to be in a pretty long period of time with out any jersey unveilings, I'm sure it's been worse, but with the Olympics days away and half the teams (Switzerland and Sweden officially, Norway, Slovenia, and Austria) haven't unveiled their respective jerseys yet. As we wait for these to come out, you can read the two new Altoona Express articles on HCIHL.blogspot.com or click on the HCIHL tab on the tab bar. We will definitely be starting a new comp soon, so be ready for that.

Team Canada (By Mat R.)
Mat is been making some pretty good concepts lately and this is no exception. I don't really like how the leaf doesn't finish on the back of the jersey, because it should continue onto the back. Also I don't know about it, but I might add a colored in collar. I also think that the numbers don't really need the two outlines, it would fit more with the logo if they didn't. Concept Rating 8/10

2016 Winter Classic Detroit V.S. Colorado (Justin S.)

Well I actually see where Justin is coming from with the Detroit striping. I don't think that they've ever used it in their existence, but it was on their 2009 Winter Classic socks. I also think that Justin is referencing the proposed Nordiques jersey design that they would have worn if think didn't move. I think I'll start with Detroit first. I really liked this years Winter Classic number font, and I think it would good here, using the logos and fonts, other than that nice job. Colorado is... different. I don't think that the numbers would be difficult to see in that shade. Though I like amount of blue used, I think that more burgundy and less silver would look good. One execution note, there are no TV numbers on the Detroit jersey. Concept Rating 8.4/10

Sunday: Weekend's started! Aaaaand it's gone.

Hello blog-readers, writer Justin here to ring in the new week! Or say goodbye to the weekend! Or.....just....nevermind. Skip the jersey news, there is none. Just cut to the concepts. Please.

Team Turkey by Jake88
Jake did this for (assuming) the IIHF Bottom 10 competition on HJC. If not, I don't really know.

Yes:
Flag crest on light jersey
Hem stripe on dark jersey
Doesn't look like the Team Canada uniforms. (Their regular uniforms)

No:
Shoulder patch on dark jersey. Shoulder looks too cluttered.
A hem stripe should be added on the light jersey to match with the dark jersey.
"TÜRKIYE" font should match the NOB font.

Couldn't find anything particularly unexceptional on the jersey. That's a good thing.

Rating: 9/10. Great work as always.

Team South Africa by Me

I did this for the IIHF Bottom 10 competition as well.

Little description:
I kinda copied Nike's designs for some of the current Olympic jerseys. One jersey regular, other a crazy/fancy design (i.e Team Russia, Czech Republic). The dark one is based off of the Finnish and Czech jerseys with a flag on them. The light one is just an intricate series of lines and what-not.

That's todays post. Enjoy the rest of your weekend while you can!

Saturday: All a board!

Hello I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to. Another Saturday HCI post by yours truly, sadly I got nothing to rant about so let's get to some concepts shall we.
Blackhawks vs. Penguins Stadium Series Concept [by Ware]
Up points: The stripes on both jerseys are excellent, the logos are classy, and nice. Nothing else much to say about, nice set!
Down points: On the Pens the chest stripes didn't go all the way back around, and no white trim around the numbers. The only thing on the Blackhawks is the number on the back of the jersey.
Suggestion: On the Pens, add white trim around the numbers so that the chest stripes can go all the way around. On the Hawks make the numbers on the back white and it's all good.

Altoona Express [by Jake88]
Up points: The design is spot on, the fonts on both numbers, and nameplates is an good choice. The logo is original and good, mostly the logo on the alternate is very good.
Down points: On the road looks too plain to my taste with just gold pipings.
Suggestion: Add black or maroon piping on the road. Make the alternate logo the main logo for both home, and road.

Well that's today post, hopefully you all have a good weekend like I will, before I go, I got a random hockey video from the good old YouTube! Hope you all enjoy it. It's an footage from the 2010 Winter Olympics Gold metal game between Canada, and USA with Sid's "Golden Goal" in 5 different telecast. Until then, I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to.
