Saturday: Trades, Drama, Comets, Oh my!

Hi every one Alan here on HCI for another Saturday post. What’s going on with HCI? Who knows, for now on to some rants, and then to the concept.

St. Louis and Callahan swap teams
St. Louis was traded to the big apple New York Rangers, while Mr. Callahan heads south to play for the Tampa Bay Lightning. What’s makes it intrusting is that they were Captain, the question is will they get the “C” with their new team? Probably not, but who knows we’ll have to wait and see.

Loungo as a Canuck no more!
After all the drama that happened in Vancouver for lord knows how long came to an end, or to some nucks fans a bitter end. I never knew the day that this would happened, from the failure to win the Stanley Cup, the early first round elimination 2 years in a row, the starting goalie saga, and the list goes on. But not anymore as he got traded to the team he made a name for himself years ago, the Florida Panthers. Last night he made an impact by making 25 saves, help the Panthers beat the Sabres 2-0, and earned a shutout, talk about moving on! With some little tweaks on the rosters, the Panthers can be a real playoff contenders for real. With this trade can this be the Vancouver Canucks ultimate down fall?
Enough rant, on to the concept

Utica Comets concept [by Justin S.]
Up points: Using the team's Inaugural Season logo really fits the team better then what their current logo looks. adding silver gives a nice touch to the jersey.
Down points: Lack of trims around the numbers, using green yokes with silver trim is a bit too much.
My suggestion: Remove the yoke, and add trims around the numbers.

Well that's Saturday, with the trade deadline in the books, you know that means? We are getting close to the "Playoffs!" Who's in? Who's out? We will see as we are on the final stretch of this season. Until then later.

Saturday: My Top 11 NHL Outdoor game jerseys

Hi everyone, Alan here for your not just Saturday, not only it's post number 201, it's also the first day of march here on Hockey Concept Ideas. Today is the Stadium Series game between Pittsburgh, and Chicago. Also tomorrow is the Heritage Classic game with Ottawa taking on Vancouver to wrap up this year outdoor games. Today I decide to not to post any concepts, but rank all the outdoor jerseys that was showcase this year, from Winter Classic, to Stadium Series, to the Heritage Classic. Now sit back and enjoy I give you "The Top 11 2014 NHL Outdoor game jerseys." Let's not waste time and get going.

11. Anaheim Ducks
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
The idea of Anaheim Ducks in orange jersey was always in many fans mind, and every concept artist desire, and dream to be for real. But this one is "NIGHTMARE!" Chromed logo, one thin hem stripe with thick side panel, half stripes on the arms, and tilted TV numbers. The only thing good from this disaster jersey is the "OC" shoulder patch, and that's all.

10. New York Islanders
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
Despite of just the "NY" chromed logo, the nameplate, stretched numbers in the back, tilted numbers, white yoke, and just one hem stripe. This one got an good collar, and the arm stripe is pretty much tamed, not the best, but better then the Ducks.

9. New York Rangers
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
This one was an disappointment for me, stretched numbers in the back, tilted numbers, one hem stripe, and thick side panel. The arm stripe is messed up in an bad way. The collar, yoke, and the "New York" word mark logo makes up for an not so good jersey that got that "Lady Liberty" feel to it.

8. Pittsburgh Penguins
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
This one maybe like the others, but it's better then the team's current set. I like the stripes on both arms, and hem. An small vegas gold on the back of the yoke could have gone all the way to the front of the yoke. Finally using the Oilers collar is an good call! Overall: It just an SS jersey, but fix it more and it could be the next set for the team.

7. Chicago Blackhawks
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
This had everything going, but fell short, stretched numbers in the back, chromed logo, and tilted numbers. But at lease they have hem stripes on it. Overall: If it weren't for stretched numbers in the back, chromed logo, and tilted numbers. This one would be the team's future 3rd.

6. Vancouver Canucks
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
Last year this was worn by the Canucks, on March 2 the team will wear it again. The jersey is alright but I felt like they should wear their first jersey from the beginning, and cream pants "Not a big fan!" Nothing too much to say about it, moving on.

5. Los Angeles Kings
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
Out of all Stadium Series jerseys, this team is one of my favorite! The chromed logo really fit this jersey nicely. Grey as the team's main color on this jersey is really an eye catcher. I got nothing to say about this, despite of the tilted TV numbers, this one is an solid SS jersey.

4. Detroit Red Wings
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
Classic, and nostalgia. The stripes are wisely place, straight nameplate is fine with me, numbers are classy, and the logo pure classic. The downer is the word mark above the logo make it busy, and vintage white, really? Overall: Good WC jersey but two things kept it away from the top 3.

3. New Jersey Devils
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
Originally the logo was suppose to be chromed, but at the game it didn't happen witch I respects them, and also I'm glad that this team did not followed the other teams in using the terrible jersey design that give jersey collectors an eye sore. Base on the team's first ever set. Overall: Very classic jersey, favorable, and why haven't the team promote it to full time 3rd?

2. Toronto Maple Leafs
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
Stripes, stripes, stripes everywhere on this jersey! Despite I hate this team, but you got to give them credit they know how to present classic jerseys nicely. Overall: Nice WC jersey from an team I hate.

And the Number 1 of my top 11 NHL Outdoor games jersey is.....

1. Ottawa Senators
Picture Credit: The (unofficial) NHL Uniform Database
I'm going off the record and say that I hate vintage white, such a overrated colored, but this one was used very well done to my taste. An vintage white version of the team's current 3rd jersey. Nice stripes that is well balanced that is simple but great. Overall: Vintage white or true white make it full time road along with the current 3rd as home to replaced the team's current set.

And that's my top 11 NHL Outdoor games jerseys. What you think? It is fair, unfair? Witch one you think should be number 1?
Well that's today post, hope you all enjoy the weekend as for me let's just say I got family reunion to go to. Lastly before I go, I just received my additional jerseys from St.John Newfoundland and Labrador, the AHL's St.John's IceCaps jersey set, both home, road, and alternate. With the additional of the 2014 AHL All-Star game puck, so it's a good haul for me and worth the price tag. Until then see you all next Saturday your normal post by me yours truly, later.

P.S. here's the picture of my IceCaps jerseys

Friday: Happy Birthday, Indeed

As I am getting ready for day two of the Spalding Hoophall Classic, I am enjoying a quiet birthday to get away from the chaos of this tournament. And on Sunday, as I have the day off, I will be continuing my job as the official PA announcer for my college's club hockey team. Then classes start on Tuesday as MLK Day is the last day of Hoophall. Elsewhere, I am submitting a concept in my recently started retro-modern series and hope you will enjoy it, one of three currently completed.

AHL vs. Färjestad BK
Submitted by: Robb Clarke

Oh my goodness I'm in love with this concept, I want to suggest it to my good colleague Dave Andrews! Yes, remember him, the one whose class I took - who is the CEO and President of the AHL? Yes him. Almost everything makes sense. Not knowing which jerseys  will be worn by the visitors, having a back-up jersey is always a good idea. I like gradient not because it is semi-pro hockey, but because it is an special event match not a season competition. The only thing I'd like to know is why solid numbers sans outline are featured on the white uniform. But Robb pretty much nailed this one.

Colorado Avalanche
Submitted by: K14 Koncepts
I really like this set from K14 as well, but it's too eerily similar to a pair of familiar jersey sets: St. Louis and Anaheim - both of the 90s. There isn't enough distinction in the striping despite an additional stripe and the hem color not being extended on the sleeves. To make the striping look original, turn it int a jagged set of lines to create a mountainous looking terrain like the old jerseys, but with the same angles used here instead. The silver help create a fake metallic feel to it as well, and is what it should be doing as an accent color.

Retro-modern: Burger King
Submitted by: Ricky (Me)
With this one, I wanted to be both original and authentic at the same time. I took what I liked from the original Burger King jersey and added others not from it. of course, I am also making sure the jerseys actually have a different color from what they originally were. I would really like to see the purple come back as well as the crest logo I used. Yes I do realize that I slightly undersized the back numbers.

Well, it's going to be a busy rest of the day and I am going to finish preparing for it. And with the upcoming events, it will be very interesting for sure. Enjoy your weekend!

Saturday: Clocks an ticking with Pelicans flying over the Sharks

Like the title? Well hope so, because today is Saturday!
If you're hearing some ticking noise, it's telling you about the Indy Fuel Competition that we got going on here, if you made an Indy Fuel concept and you haven't send it yet you have until 11:59pm tonight to send your concept in.

INDY FUEL COMP ENTRIES DUE TONIGHT AT 11:59PM!

With that out away let's get going with some concepts
Lahti Pelicans SM-Liiga concept [by Jake88]
From Finland comes the Pelicans. Using the same template as the Barrie Colts current white uniform, somehow I found this fits the team better then any other teams. The only thing I think that this could be an good concept is the numbers, it's too plain to my taste, if you put standard block it'll be alright. Score: 7/10

Worcester Sharks Concept [by me]
Turning back the clock to 2011. I use the Jacksonville Sharks' (Arena Football) logo for the team's main logo. made the sharks fin on the arms, and hem to give that nice theme to it. The colors are teal, black, silver, and white. What do you think of this concept by me? Leave an comment down below for your thought on it.

Well that's today post, see you'll tomorrow for my Sunday post. Til then, later.

Sunday: Give me Liberty, and an Wolf! Plus an bonus jersey review!

It's Sunday, you know that means? More concepts! We also have our first contest, and it's for the ECHL's Indy Fuel! Send in your entries before Saturday!

Before we get to the concepts, I forgot to add one thing to yesterday post, my review of the NY Islanders "Stadium Series" jersey, I was so gun ho for it, but got busy in the morning and forgot, so I'll post it here!
Photo from sportslogos.net

Photo from sportslogos.net
This jersey has potential, but there are things I got beef with. Number 1. Just the "NY" logo looks too plain to my taste, even with the chrome touch to the logo doesn't help out at all. Number 2. The shoulder yoke has that sweet looking design but making it just white ruins it, and cutting the back of it just to put the "Reebok" word mark on it, What were they thinking? Number 3. The nameplates, Really? You have to pull an Flyers with that, it was good at first, now it just stupid. Lastly number 4. The stripes, on the arms only stop half way is a bad move to me, the hem got only one white line witch look bland in an bad way. My Jersey Collection Rate: Discount!

Now with that out of the way, on to the concepts.

New York Rangers concept [by Steve]
This is very good jersey. Using the Liberty logo is always good thing, adding the stripes on the hem to match the arms is a good move. The down point is the numbers, it's looks good, but it lacks white trim between the red, and silver, and pixels around the collar area. Overall: good jersey that almost complete. Score: 7.5/10

Hartford Wolf Pack concept [by me]
I try to make it simple and self ID. Stripes on the arms and on the side all the way down. With both the numbers, and nameplate are the NYR old alternate fonts from 1996-2007. What do you think of my concept?

Well that's today post hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend, and remember Indy Fuel Contest! Til then later!

Sunday: Canada and St. John's?

Hello people who read this blog! In today's post I will be reviewing the Canadian Olympic jerseys and St. John's Icecaps new thirds. In my personal life, I scored a goal in my team's game yesterday and my first in the regular season. Sadly our team couldn't hold on to a 2-1 lead and we tied 2-2, I was a plus 2 in the whole game. In the game I had this morning we didn't do nearly as good and lost 1-2. On to the jerseys!

_________________________________________________________________________

Team Canada
From Nike
In my opinion, these have by far the most potential of any of the jersey's released thus far. All you need to do is add the one stripe to the other side. Maybe if you want to, continue the gold outline of the leaf to the rest of the chest stripe, but it might be too much. Jersey Rating: 7.5/10

St. John's Icecaps
From Icethetics
Here is a victory for concept artists everywhere. Troy Birmingham, a graphic artist from St. John's, Newfoundland approached the newly founded team in 2011 with his design. Although I wouldn't normally like this much silver anywhere, it doesn't look bad here (I'm not really a fan of the Whalers jerseys that were like that). The one thing that kinda confuses me is that the collar is a tiedown and the yoke is square. These are features that are on most of Reebok's new jerseys. I'm guessing Reebok got involved there. The logo isn't bad, for an American like me I had to read the Icethetics article to find out what the tower in the background was, but It's a good feature. Jersey Rating: 8/10

Texas Stars
From Taylor Vause
I couldn't help but bring these up too. This is another concept artist who made his design in real life. This one was designed by a player of the Texas Stars though. The player, Taylor Vause, had done this before, with the Swift Current Broncos, he made two designs that he wore in games. You can read about them here. About the jerseys, the only problem is mismatching placement of the stars between the hem and sleeves. Jersey Rating: 8/10

Saturday: St.John IceCaps 3rd jersey review

Hi everyone it's Saturday, another day, and another post by me yours truly. I decide to instead of posting concepts today, I will review the St.John IceCaps 3rd jersey. For those never heard of them, the St.John IceCaps are the Winnipeg Jets farm club team, and my cousin works for the IceCaps in the entertainment department.
Picture from IceCaps Facebook page
Picture from IceCaps Facebook page
Picture from IceCaps Facebook page
The first look at this jersey it remind me of the Hartford Whalers old set before they move to Carolina, the things that made it different it's got silver square yoke with white stripe, and tie down collar. The front logo is nice, is modern it felt like it could be a good logo replacement if they decide to, having the Jets logo on one side of shoulder, and the flag of Newfoundland and Labrador on the other side is an nice touch. The socks match very well! The team's numbers and nameplates is the same as their current home and road. Overall: Nice 3rd that isn't over the top. My Recommendation: Buy it!
Well that's my review of the St.John IceCaps 3rd jersey. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the fine weekend, til then later.

Monday: 2x

So this is the second post written by me in as many days. I kinda went dry with everything I talked about yesterday so I leave you with the HCIHL scores.

Louisville Lynx 163 - Skopje Lisici 138
Hamilton Stags 164.2 - Altoona Express 158.3
Evansville Rivermen 128.2 - London Sabreswords 113.3

Interesting to note, the Lynx get their first win yet coming against Skopje. But the Stags continue their 5-0 run by just beating the Express in the closest game yet for them. In this weeks matchups it is a repeat of the first week games. So what teams are looking for some revenge, I know my Express are!

_________________________________________________________________________

Texas Stars (Jake88/Me)
So remember those old Stars jerseys that we all hated... They make a reappearance here, but in a much nicer color scheme, hem stripes, a yoke, and laces. If you're asking "why Texas?" well the Texas Stars are Dallas's farm team. A few small notes I wanted to point out. First with the color change I propose a change in Texas's logo, here is the current, but how about my edited version? Better right, and if you are wondering why it isn't on the jersey, check out the pants and helmet. Other thing, with Dallas featuring a collar effect on their sweaters, I thought "why not on the farm team" so look at the collar. The only thing I am not sure of is how the phantom yoke looks on the green jersey, can I have your opinions on it?

_________________________________________________________________________

Again. I am kinda tired from writing yesterday and today so that's my one concept post. "Bye" he said with a feeling of tiredness.

Thursday, Jake88 special (Written by Caden)

Today is Jake88 day!!! We have 3 of his jerseys featured today! The Evansville Icemen have a Blue/White Exhibition game 80 miles away in Owensboro tomorrow, so I'm super busy! Being a stickboy and all! I've been given a big honor as a jersey designer but I can't tell you what it is quite yet! I will fill you with developments when I can!

Bridgeport Sound Tigers Jake88

Jake88 made this awesome jersey for the Sound Tigers using an old Islanders template. It's perfect! there is absolutely nothing I would change about it! The striping is perfect! the colo(U)r distribution! Everything's just amazing! this would be an EPIC 3rd for Bridgeport and it's an EASY

Concept Rating 10/10!!!

San Jose Shark(nado)s Jake88

Jake88 brings us a Sharks "fix" and he fixed it! this concept is 1000 times better than what they have and if I owned a NHL team, he would be my head jersey designer! Him and Matt McElroy! I think there is too much orange and I'm not a fan of the names in the yoke! too Nikeish! Except for that a solid concept and I will give a

Concept Rating 9/10

Phoenix Coyotes Jake88

From Great, to Hate! Sorry Jake but I'm not a fan. I really don't like the striping and the way you used sand and black. I've always been a fan of the 2 color jerseys. The logo isn't my favorite either. The jersey would look better with a squared off yoke. The Execution is OFF THE CHARTS though so I will give this jersey

Concept Rating 7.5/10

If you saw my letter to the readers that I wrote yesterday, Cool! if not Go back and read it! When the HCI staff votes on a schedule I or Jake or Justin will let you guys know!!!

Just because I thought this was cool, Pageview breakdown! Also I don't have it count mine or Jake's pageveiws in the stats.
