Friday: King of the World

Back in action for the first Friday in the month of April. It's "the magic of Ricky Mazella" according to yesterday's tweet from HCI's official account. Let's begin the weekend off with a bang, starting right now!

Dylan gives us a slice of retro-modernism. With everything current about the jersey elements, there isn't much to be surprised about (though I must say ditch the Bettman stripes). However, he brings back yellow to be reintroduced to the color scheme. There is also a lot more white featured on this jersey (et al). I don't think I like seeing that much white, but bringing the gold back takes a good step back towards the past but forward in the right direction.

Speaking of kings, the "King of New York" once again has become a pivotal point in my life. I had another jersey come in earlier this week. It is my first in the sport of basketball. Why am I posting about a basketball jersey? Well for one thing it would make a good hockey spin-off, but I am a jersey enthusiast in general. My favorite team, a player with all of his 18 seasons for that team, it's one of the few exceptions I make for purchases. This was a jersey that had almost completely alluded me for several years. I came across one for $10 (opening bid) but didn't have a Paypal account and my neighbor freshman year (last name Miller) saw me looking at it and I told him to try for it. He got it at that opening bid. Three years later and $30 more expensive with free shipping both times, I am home.

Another HCI post down. Meanwhile I'm having a much better round so far in HCIHL play (not that the consolation match mean's anything). Well I hope that the last few games of the regular season are as exciting as you hope - QUACK!

Saturday: The Rematch!

Hi everyone, Alan here for another wonderful Saturday here on Hockey Concept Idea. Well tomorrow we'll see who's going to win the gold medal between Canada, and Sweden for the first time since 1994 were the young Peter Forsburg score a shootout goal that give Sweden the gold medal, while Canada have to deal with silver. Now 20 years later here we are the rematch, truthfully I been waiting for this to happen, I was 8 years old sitting on the couch watching this game mainly because Blenheim native Todd Warriner played for team Canada. I remember that day is was more then heart break, it was dark for me seeing that shootout goal to end an epic gold medal game ever. Let's hope this rematch have the same fire as the 1994 gold medal finals, but with an different result.

Enough old memories, let's get to concepts.

LA Kings Concept [By K14]
This one is good concept for the Kings, the purple and the gold was put together wisely done. The stripes on both arms and hem fits the team look, the yoke on the white kept the balance nicely. The main logo is just the crown, but the way the colors put together on the crown helps this concept without any trouble. Lastly the shoulder patch really fits this concept, mainly the use of purple, and gold. Great concept, that's all I can say.

Oshawa Generals Concept [By me]
This Concept is almost the same as their current set only squeezing the stripes together and curve them slightly for the Reebok effect feel to it, the only stripes that is straight is the yokes, the socks, and the side of the pants, two different shoulder patch is added on this concept, one was the Bruins theme crest, and the other is the "Honour and Tradition" patch and lastly made the helmets half Red and Blue like the old days before they made it one solid color.

Well another Saturday post is in the books. This week YouTube video is a TSN music video taking a shot at the NHL's stupid puck over the glass rule that make no sense to me at all, enjoy the video. Until then later.

Friday: Happy Birthday, Indeed

As I am getting ready for day two of the Spalding Hoophall Classic, I am enjoying a quiet birthday to get away from the chaos of this tournament. And on Sunday, as I have the day off, I will be continuing my job as the official PA announcer for my college's club hockey team. Then classes start on Tuesday as MLK Day is the last day of Hoophall. Elsewhere, I am submitting a concept in my recently started retro-modern series and hope you will enjoy it, one of three currently completed.

AHL vs. Färjestad BK
Submitted by: Robb Clarke

Oh my goodness I'm in love with this concept, I want to suggest it to my good colleague Dave Andrews! Yes, remember him, the one whose class I took - who is the CEO and President of the AHL? Yes him. Almost everything makes sense. Not knowing which jerseys  will be worn by the visitors, having a back-up jersey is always a good idea. I like gradient not because it is semi-pro hockey, but because it is an special event match not a season competition. The only thing I'd like to know is why solid numbers sans outline are featured on the white uniform. But Robb pretty much nailed this one.

Colorado Avalanche
Submitted by: K14 Koncepts
I really like this set from K14 as well, but it's too eerily similar to a pair of familiar jersey sets: St. Louis and Anaheim - both of the 90s. There isn't enough distinction in the striping despite an additional stripe and the hem color not being extended on the sleeves. To make the striping look original, turn it int a jagged set of lines to create a mountainous looking terrain like the old jerseys, but with the same angles used here instead. The silver help create a fake metallic feel to it as well, and is what it should be doing as an accent color.

Retro-modern: Burger King
Submitted by: Ricky (Me)
With this one, I wanted to be both original and authentic at the same time. I took what I liked from the original Burger King jersey and added others not from it. of course, I am also making sure the jerseys actually have a different color from what they originally were. I would really like to see the purple come back as well as the crest logo I used. Yes I do realize that I slightly undersized the back numbers.

Well, it's going to be a busy rest of the day and I am going to finish preparing for it. And with the upcoming events, it will be very interesting for sure. Enjoy your weekend!

Tuesday. Ah! So close!

For the entire week, the Rivermen/Stags matchup was really close, The Rivermen deactivated high scorer Shane Doan from the IR and we had two straight wins from Marc Fluery and the Pens. Alas, Hamilton beat us by only 11 points. It was so dissapionting as we are now back to .500 and tied with Louisville for 2nd place. I would just like to say that I heard from a sports writer here in Evansville that went to the Winter Classic that it was 10$ for a cup of hot chocolate. I think for that the Michigan Wolverines are not a very good organization when there are 105,000 people there they could make way enough money charging 3! That might not even be true, but I heard that. We have a couple nice concepts for today, so let's not waste time with my ranting. New competition coming soon.

Staidum Series LA (Matt Ware)

The first Matt of the day gives us a orange vs black matchup for staidum series one of 3 (or 4). I like the logos on both jerseys. The color balance is good, but I am concerned about the amount of black on the Anehiem jersey. If a LA player was watching the puck and just saw the bottom of the jersey he could easily mistake him for a player on his own team. Not really many concerns about execution. The striping looks spectacular.

Concept Rating: Ducks 8/10, Kings 9/10

San Jose Sharks (Matt McElroy)
So Matt McElroy went to the Winter Classic, and got a custom (ugh) Red Wings jersey for Christmas, but I don't envy him at all. If it was a Leafs jersey...

The more grey the less orange in any San Jose concept is the way to go. I like the font and the way the striping is laid out. No front numbers! Yay! I think the pants would look better with a grey stripe near the bottom, like the Isles Staidum Series pants. And the black outline on the green numbers on the away blends. I would have gone with grey numbers with a black outline on both jerseys.

Concept Rating: 9.4/10

It's kinda late, but my parents gave me this (along other things) for Christmas. If you can't see what it is it's a quilt made with a bunch of my Dad's old hockey shirts and sweaters from teams he's worked for.
Just thought I would share. I also got NHL 13 (I stay behind one year to save money) Madden 13, and another controller to go with my new Xbox (360). But this creative hockey themed quilt was the highlight of my Christmas.

Did you like the lineup of concepts? What is your opinion on the Michigan Wolverines charging $10 for a cup of hot chocolate at the winter classic? Would you leave a different review/rating for any of the jerseys? Leave a comment! It's what they're there for.

Monday, Monday

So what's happening on your Monday? At my house it's pretty relaxed, and that's why I didn't prewrite this post. I just got a new laptop, Windows 8, of course (still learning how to work it), and though I haven't set up all of my files yet, nor downloaded Paint.net (the program I use for all of my concepts) I can still write this post! Now for your weekly HCIHL scores.
You can always check scores and stats at HCIHL.Blogspot.com

Altoona Express 176.9 - London (ON) Sabreswords 81.1
Evansville Rivermen 180.3 - Skopje Lisici (Foxes) 112
Hamilton Stags 193.3 - Louisville Lynx 135.2

Now on to your regularly scheduled concepts....

___________________________________________________________________________________

Columbus Blue Jackets (Matt W.)
One of hockey concept world's many Matts brings us a very unique Columbus concept that I'm indifferent on. I actually kinda like the Blue Jackets jerseys now (don't shoot!), and I don't know if I'd like this. Right now the striping looks a bit minor league-ish or too much like Anaheim. I'm guessing that the stars on the cuffs are centered, but the way you have it now there would be two of them. The more and more I look at the concept though, I like it. My suggestions (and this is with all of the concepts that include the Ohio flag like this) is to put some blue in the striping (on the white jersey). I'd put it right above the striping and end it at the stitching. Concept Rating: 7.7/10

Stadium Series LA (By Ricky M.)
Friday's writer Ricky gives the first concept of his new mini series with LA. With the winter classic coming up, we will see the first colored game for a long time, with the last one being with LA's yellow jerseys. I really like the lack of chrome on the logos, but I can't say I like the old shield logo for LA, though I do welcome Purple back greatly. The under arm mesh looks too Nike for me, and the numbers on LA especially would be waaaaaayyyyyy too dark to see. I would like some Purple in LA's striping and some bronze in Anaheim's. The helmets are very odd, and other than the U of Michigan's helmet striping, I don't think I've seen anything like it. Concept Rating 6.5/10 (ANA 7.1/10) (LA 5.9/10)

Sunday: The crazy week begins

Hello I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to. Well if you all didn't send your entry to the Blue Jays contest, I'm sorry it's too late to send it because we are now on the voting round right now, just click on the Blue Jays Comp for info. But that doesn't mean you have to stop sending your concepts in just send them to hockeyconceptideas@gmail.com.

Here are the last batch of of the Blue Jays entries

Ricky M.

Alan H.

Creighton Comp Voting ends this Saturday Dec 28

Last night I went to Wheatley for an hockey game it was fun to watch an Jr.C league game, the Sharks won the game, and may I say they have the best locker room that opens before they hit the ice.

With that out of the way, on to the concepts

Los Angeles Kings concept [by Matthew M.]
Up points: Nice idea of bringing back the purple, and gold back. The logo is well tweaked to the mix of classic and modern. It maybe the same template as the team's current white uniform, but with different collar on both of these jersey gives it more better look.
Down points: Nothing much say any bad about this one.
My Suggestion: The only thing is add purple trim around the logo on the gold jersey, that's all.

Indy Fuel concept [by Caden P.]
Up points: Good idea on using the checker stripes to give it a little fitting theme to the team. Using red as the team's main color followed by yellow and black.
Down points: The numbers on the back, and the small numbers on the front is standard block, while the TV numbers is SF Piezolectric, it doesn't really fit the jersey. The yellow collar looks O.K. on the dark jersey, but yellow collar on the white looks plain to me.
My Suggestion: Fix the fonts on the numbers, so they can be on the same page, the only thing that you can get away with two different fonts is nameplates. Add trim(s) to the collars to give some life to it. Lastly add the team's secondary logo on the shoulder.

Florida Panthers concept [by Matthew M.]
Up points: The design on the jerseys are well made. using the navy blue trim on the numbers for both home and road is an good move. Lastly red as the team's main color fit this team in a good way!
Down points: The front logo looks good, but it's only work on an alternate jersey to me. The road looks like it has less red on it to me.
My Suggestion: Put the full body panther with the broken hockey stick on these jerseys. On the road switch the navy blue and red stripes and it'll be complete.

Wheatley Sharks OHA Great Lakes Jr C Jerseys Concept [by me]
This is the Wheatly Sharks OHA Great Lakes Jr C Jerseys Concept. It’s pretty much a recolored Worcester Sharks concept just to fit the teams theme, their main crest is their own just add outer lines around the crest, the colors I gave them is navy blue, royal blue, red, and silver, and of course like most of junior C teams have a Canadian Flag on their yokes. This is what the team currently wearing right now.

Belleville Bulls OHL concept [by me]

This Concept I kept it simple made only 3 stripes on the hem, the wrist cuffs, socks, and V-neck those 3 stripes represent decades, over 30 years that this club been around, the main crest is their old crest they use since the beginning and they still use them for both their dark, and 3rd while their white jersey they got that cartoon bull, back to the concept the main crest is indeed the old bull just add trim around the crest and "Boom!" my Belleville Bulls concept.

Well that's today post. What do you think of my  Wheatley Sharks and/or my Belleville Bulls concept?

Until then Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkahs, Happy Kwanza, Happy Decemberween, Happy whatever Holiday you're celebrate.  I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to.

Sunday: Writing Today's Post a Bit Late

First, want to say, how close is that Stags V.S. Express game? It's been back and forth the whole time! Right now the undefeated Stags are winning 159.4 to 152.7. But, with Altoona having three good Blackhawk players playing against a goalie changed Calgary, things could go in the Express's way.

In other news I am sorry for not writing this post as early as expected. I told Caden and he said "it's fine" so now to the reason this post is late. Ok, I had a hockey game about two hours away. We tied the team 3-3 with the tying goal being assisted by yours truly. The team that we played was probably the best team that we had played yet and we are 0-2-1 in our league (2-2 outside our league) so we can only improve from now.

_________________________________________________________________________

New York Rangers (Ricky Mazella)
When I first saw this I thought how much potential does this have? Sure the Rangers should never change (especially wearing an actual logo) but for conceptual purposes it works. The white jersey is almost the same (shoulder patches and logo) but the blue jersey is rehauled, and I can't say I am a fan. White yolks work only sometimes (and the 70's) and it doesn't look that great here. The red jersey has potential, too (more than the rest of the set) but again I can't like it. Maybe too much striping? Execution errors! No TV (arm) numbers and the shade of blue in the logo isn't the same as the jersey. Concept Rating 6.5/10

Los Angeles Kings Stadium Series (Jake88/Me)
Like it says on the concept I took some inspiration from Caden's stadium series concept from a few days ago. I think that this looks like something that the Kings could wear and maybe should. Also if you notice, I redid my branding to something a bit more "classy" so if you check my blog anytime soon there might be some new stuff on it.

Ducks/Kings Stadium Series Me

Saturday is Today

Well the title is about as normal is it gets, so is today. I would have posted yesterday but I went to my school's first football game, sadly we lost to our rivals 20 to 6, next year. Any way we have three concepts by my Admin Caden, so lets get to them!

Stadium Series (NYR V.S. NYI) (Caden)
Hmmm... Not sure about this one, I'm still not a fan of the side panels and logo found on the Rangers jersey. I do like the blue helmet and lack of vintage white on the Rangers jersey, though. The Islanders jersey isn't that bad, and the logo looks pretty cool, just not as a Stadium Series logo, especially on a team who (minus the fisherman era) has always used a variation of the original logo. One other thing I can't stand is the colored name bar, let that stay in Philly. Concept Rating: 7/10

Team USA (Caden)
Hmmm... Again this one's out there. The side panels look extremely bad, more so on the blue jersey. I dislike the logo, the olympic rings certainly aren't needed. The flag on the shoulders would look good but it's already on the front on the jersey so it's a bit unnecessary. The striping does look good, very simple, a lot better than what got they gave us. One side note Nike makes the Olympic jerseys, not Reebok, and there are Nike templates in Paint Users Paradise. Concept Rating 6.5/10

Stadium Series (LA V.S. ANA) (Caden)
Hmmm... For the third time. I'll start with the LA jersey. I feel as if I am one of the only people who like cut off chest stripes, and this one doesn't look bad with it. The logo looks bad because it is the only thing with silver on it on the jersey. Now to the Ducks jersey, Vintage White to me is a big no-no for Anaheim, and the orange, jade, eggplant, and black color scheme looks horrible. I'd add an eggplant yoke and numbers to it, and the template isn't the best idea for a Stadium Series game. For both jerseys the Boston Strong patch isn't necessary, for teams in California, also the socks are too templatey. Concept Rating 7.4/10

Thanks for reading, and I hope the rest of your day is a good one!
