Monday: Prepping for the Championship

The HCIHL playoff are on now! With the Rivermen trailing the Lynx, and the Foxes getting killed by the Stags. In the consolation ladder, which I didn't even know existed until I checked the scores yesterday, and I'm playing in it... My Express, are somehow still in the game against a team that knew that there was a consolation ladder, the Sabreswords. The way things look, this will be the last game in Altoona for the Express, and the last game in Skopje for the Foxes. Unless the Rivermen catch up, the Lynx will keep playing in Louisville, and after in the championship they will move to Las Vegas. Enough about that, now to an HCIHL team concept.

UPDATE BY CADEN! THE RIVERMEN ARE WINNING AGIAN, WHICH WE HAVE PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE GAME!
_________________________________________________________________________________

Evansville Rivermen (Caden Patafie)
Caden shows us how his team's uniforms will look for the upcoming season, as of now they look like this. The new set will have a very original number font and be without any white in the striping. Like all of the released jerseys, except for the Pilots and the Bighorns, the Rivermen will have the Nike fake laces. The striping pattern's unique in the HCIHL although you lose the lighter blue on the dark jersey. YOU ALWAYS NEED TV NUMBERS!!!! Ok Caden already told us why it was tough for him to apply them, but you still should have them kids. The helmet is very pixelated, I'm not sure if you can fix that in pain though. Concept Rating 7.4/10

_________________________________________________________________________________

My Penn State team was able to beat Michigan on Thursday, a big feat for a team ranked 51st in the country, as Michigan was ranked 11th. Though in the next round, they lost to Wisconsin 2-1. If they would have won that game, they would have played Ohio State in the next round, as they upset Minnesota, who was ranked 1 in the nation.

Well that's all for today, hope to see everyone next Monday!

Note: Sorry this post is late, I must have forgotten to Schedule it on Blogger... ooops.

Saturday: All a board!

Hello I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to. Another Saturday HCI post by yours truly, sadly I got nothing to rant about so let's get to some concepts shall we.
Blackhawks vs. Penguins Stadium Series Concept [by Ware]
Up points: The stripes on both jerseys are excellent, the logos are classy, and nice. Nothing else much to say about, nice set!
Down points: On the Pens the chest stripes didn't go all the way back around, and no white trim around the numbers. The only thing on the Blackhawks is the number on the back of the jersey.
Suggestion: On the Pens, add white trim around the numbers so that the chest stripes can go all the way around. On the Hawks make the numbers on the back white and it's all good.

Altoona Express [by Jake88]
Up points: The design is spot on, the fonts on both numbers, and nameplates is an good choice. The logo is original and good, mostly the logo on the alternate is very good.
Down points: On the road looks too plain to my taste with just gold pipings.
Suggestion: Add black or maroon piping on the road. Make the alternate logo the main logo for both home, and road.

Well that's today post, hopefully you all have a good weekend like I will, before I go, I got a random hockey video from the good old YouTube! Hope you all enjoy it. It's an footage from the 2010 Winter Olympics Gold metal game between Canada, and USA with Sid's "Golden Goal" in 5 different telecast. Until then, I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to.

Wednesday: Your Presents Include...

It's Christmas day, and I wanted to try something a bit different...
I wanted to use a William Butala esque rating system that I thought would be fun for Christmas. The way that I decided to do this is through hockey team Christmas card/greetings. Well I know that you all are dying to see what type of ratings I do so we should get to it. But first your one reminder...

Creighton Comp Voting ends this Saturday Dec 28

_________________________________________________________________________________

Philadelphia Flyers (By Jeremy R.)
Jeremy starts us out with a Flyers sweater that isn't that bad. He kinda fixes the problems that were on the original edge jersey (angled arm stripes, nothing on the hem, ect...). He replaces it with arm piping and pretty much fill in the blank arm stripes that, in this case aren't bad. I think that the captains patch should have an orange outline, and the number on the front shouldn't be there. I also like the collar. On an execution note one of the TV numbers on the back view is missing. I also find the pit stains unnecessary.

I give this one the rating of Philly's rival team, and my personal favorite team, the Penguins. This concept in my opinion isn't as good as their currents, but tries to be (like any concept). The Pens video tries to be like this (awesome) Blackhawks video, but doesn't really do it. Concept Rating 7.5/10

London Sabreswords Christmas Game (By Alan H.)
Our own writer Alan, gives us this nice Christmas game concept for his HCIHL team that I like. :The striping is pretty nice, but I kinda reminds me of this Lithuanian jersey (don't ask why). I'd have to see how the side panels would look in a game, because it's so different, but it works. The logo is great and the jersey is good for one time use. I don't have any problems with it at all.

I give this one the rating of the Virden Oil Capitals, wait who's that? They are a team playing in the MJHL in Virden, Manitoba. Like this concept the video is very festive and it's well done, especially for a junior team. Concept Rating 9/10

Well that's it for today. Sorry about the late post, but hey I'm sure Santa's late sometimes too. Bye and Happy Holidays!

WED. 102 and counting

Yo! Caden here. My food drive was a huge success! We collected 1,313 pounds of food for the Tri-State Food Bank and had a undisclosed amount of monetary donations. Anyway. It went great! Before the concepts I'm going to give you guys the "1/3 of the season is over playoff predictions" bracket. If you guys want to submit a bracket it will be put on a post as soon as possible. You can check HCIHL scores here

Let's get to some concepts!

TEAM RUSSIA Dylan Wonka
So, Wonka brings us a concept on HCI which is a nice refresh from their actual set. He keeps the shoulder "wings" but they are sublimated. He also has some pattern near the bottom of the arms/hem that is sublimated. Everything is really nice, fresh BUT. I don't like the font. A block font wouldn't work, neither would a pointy one like the Sabreswords jerseys. This one looks a little weird. I'm not sure what it is. One more thing. You might want to lose the "necklace" around the collar, and just make it blue.

Mahilov! A 9.001/10!

Mahilov!9.001/10!

ALTOONA EXPRESS 3RD Jake88
Jake88 gives us a 3rd jersey for the Altoona Express of the "World Famous" HCIHL

Yay,
The extended yoke
The logo
The Calgary 3rdish hem stripe

Nay,
The font
The piping
The wavy arm stripes

Overall,
I like the concept. Too bad the 3rd jersey program will be discontinued for next season. The logo works well.

You can't get tied to the tracks with this jersey! A 8/10

Thanks for reading! What do you think of my HCIHL playoff predictions? Tell me in the comments. I love having conversations sparked amongst our readers in the comments!

Monday, November 11, 2013

Monday, Monday. Gotta get down on Monday!

Hello fellow concept fans! Caden here today on Veterans/Remembrance day.

The Icemen have made a small uniform change which I thought I should mention here,

Before

After

Notice the addition of shoulder yokes. Tell me what you think of the change in the comments!

To the concepts!

London Sabreswords Special Event Alan John Herbert

This is a Specialty Jersey by AJH for his HCIHL team, The London Sabreswords.

Yay:
The Font
The "Poppy" Colours
The Yoke Striping

Nay:
The Black Arm panels

Creativity Credit:
I like the Poppy right/top corner and the leaf in the "Sabresword". Very creative!

A solid concept that is classy for a specialty jersey! A 9.8/10

Evansville Rivermen Memorial Day Game Caden Patafie

This is a Specialty Jersey I made for my HCIHL team, The Evansville Rivermen

I made this jersey for the Rivs. Sort of self explanatory. Tell me what you think in the comments!

Before I go, I would like to thank all who have served or are serving in the American or Canadian Armed Forces. Keeping the press free so I can "review" jerseys like Buffalo's third.

Thanks for reading! (And if you serve, Thanks for serving!)

Thursday. Sick day #1

Heyyyyyyyy! Caden here bringing you a late post today. All the concepts today I sneeze at! not because the're bad, but because I'm sick. Which is probably why the post is so late. To the *Cough Cough* Concepts!

Evansville Rivermen Caden P (Me)

To concide with league rules, I swiftified the Rivermen jersey. That is the only major change.

Team Sweden Caden (Me again!)

I made a very Nike (Used as an adjective) Sweden dark jersey. Even though it will just be a invert of the yellow jersey already released, I wanted to make a out of the box jersey.

Both of these concepts were bad and mine 'cause you guys won't send your concepts in!

Thanks for reading!

Monday: 2x

So this is the second post written by me in as many days. I kinda went dry with everything I talked about yesterday so I leave you with the HCIHL scores.

Louisville Lynx 163 - Skopje Lisici 138
Hamilton Stags 164.2 - Altoona Express 158.3
Evansville Rivermen 128.2 - London Sabreswords 113.3

Interesting to note, the Lynx get their first win yet coming against Skopje. But the Stags continue their 5-0 run by just beating the Express in the closest game yet for them. In this weeks matchups it is a repeat of the first week games. So what teams are looking for some revenge, I know my Express are!

_________________________________________________________________________

Texas Stars (Jake88/Me)
So remember those old Stars jerseys that we all hated... They make a reappearance here, but in a much nicer color scheme, hem stripes, a yoke, and laces. If you're asking "why Texas?" well the Texas Stars are Dallas's farm team. A few small notes I wanted to point out. First with the color change I propose a change in Texas's logo, here is the current, but how about my edited version? Better right, and if you are wondering why it isn't on the jersey, check out the pants and helmet. Other thing, with Dallas featuring a collar effect on their sweaters, I thought "why not on the farm team" so look at the collar. The only thing I am not sure of is how the phantom yoke looks on the green jersey, can I have your opinions on it?

_________________________________________________________________________

Again. I am kinda tired from writing yesterday and today so that's my one concept post. "Bye" he said with a feeling of tiredness.

Friday: Post-Halloween Special; Also Some B10

Hello Everybody! Who's still on a sugar high from last night? Not me! I had hockey last night so even if I wanted to go out and get candy for free, I couldn't. I think that my team does that on purpose so we don't rot out our teeth. Anyway, the Express carry the lead over the undefeated Stags into tonight, but I'm sure that they plan on erasing that soon. We will see on Sunday if the Stags will be 5-0 or 4-1.

_________________________________________________________________________

London Sabreswords (HCIHL) (Alan John Herbert)
This is pretty cool. Alan makes a special Halloween Night jersey for his HCIHL team the Sabreswords. I like the modified logo with the Pumpkin instead of the "S". The font truly works with this jersey, although I would have the white outline touch the black number. That is my only complaint. One note: If you want to check out what Alan was going for with this jersey, check it out here. Concept Rating 8/10 (For the fact that the jersey is just a recolor of that Bruins jersey).

Northwestern Wildcats (Jake88/Me)
Ok, I have to explain this before it gets torn apart. The jersey is based on the schools football uniforms. Which have a chest stripe that continues to the arms. I figured doing another chest stripe would be predictable so I did a hem stripe that continues as cuffs. Since that style of look works on the Montreal Canadiens white jersey so I think that it wouldn't look bad here. One more note. Check out the pants, I really wanted to put the number instead of a team logo on the pants, so I figured this would be a time to it.

_________________________________________________________________________

About time for me to end this post so have a good day and bye!

Rivermen Extras!!! (Jake88)

Hello followers of this fine blog! I do say, I have some hockey jersey concepts for you today. I can hope that nobody has forgotten about the anniversary that is today. Yup, the 75th is upon us, only 25 posts to go until triple digits. I know that Caden is quite proud of the blog and I have to say I am too. In my opinion, the blog can only grow now, so lets make it happen! Send in your concepts, we'll grade them and tell you how you can improve! It's that easy!

_________________________________________________________________________
Evansville Rivermen (Matt McElroy)
Everyone remember the concept that Matt made for my Express? Well here is one made for the Rivermen of Evansville. I will grade this concept like I graded the Express one. First the logo. I like just about everything about it, it truly looks like a good fantasy hockey logo! In fact, the Rivermen should've used it on their new jerseys! Only one complaint. Why the three stars? From my research the three stars don't appear on Evansville's flag, nor Indiana's, it would make sense for a team in Tennessee (Nashville uses it in their secondary) so an explanation would be helpful. To the jerseys. One word. AMAZING. Again all except for one thing, again a small tiny thing. Put the shoulder patch on both shoulders. Speaking of the shoulder patch, I would like to see it not cut off, I see an anchor and hockey sticks but thats all. So if you could give me a full size image that would help me envision it better. Concept Rating 9.4/10

Evansville Rivermen (Jake88/Me)
Ok, I had a reason for not using Matt's logo, THE SKYLINE FEATURE! Yes, this was a fix of the design Caden showed us all on Tuesday. I saw the design a few days before that and this is what I showed him. He wanted the skyline on the hem like on his concept, but I thought it would be to much, so he went with his design. I really like how the final product looks and I wish that he would have made this as the official design.

_________________________________________________________________________
So did you agree with Caden's opinion to make his design the official one? Just joking, I probably would have been angry if he used mine, and I don't know how Matt would have felt. Anyway I have made two more designs for my Big Ten redesign and I hope to show you one tomorrow. So, bye and have a great rest of your day!

*EDIT BY CADEN

I have decided to let you guys vote on which rivs jersey to use for next season! Here is mine in case you forgot!

Post number 74

Hey guys. Justin here. This OFFICIALY marks the post before our 75th post on this blog!! I just wanna thank Jake and Caden for adding me on as a 3rd writer and we've still got a bit more to go until 100.

_______________________________________

Anaheim Ducks (Alan John Herbert)
I'm assuming this is from HJC's old Anaheim "Unused Colours" contest. I saw the "HERBERT" name on the back and I thought it was old Ducks goalie Guy Hebert's name. But then I saw the R in the name and turn out it was you last name, oh well. This is a nice jersey, using somewhat of a Flyers jersey design (ex: arm striping). The only thing I would change about this is the green number on the white jersey. Make the outline black and green and the inside orange and fill in that empty space behind the neck. it sticks out like a sore thumb, especially on the white jersey. Overall, good execution ann good concept as well.  9/10

Evansville Riverman (Caden Patafie)

When I first saw this, I thought it was an unfinished version of the jersey. Then I took a closer look. Hey, the logo's on the upper right chest! It's like a soccer jersey, almost. I don't mind a yellow-coloured kit (haha, soccer term there) but assuming if there is another team in the HCIHL with a yellowed coloured jersey, a white one would fit well. The cityline striping reminds me of the late 90s Coyotes jerseys. It would look cool if the striping went all around the jersey and on the arms. It would look really awkward when you have a player wearing these, celebrating a goal, arms in the air and seeing the cityline get cut off under the arms. And enlarge the logo! This ain't soccer. 8.5/10

75th post tomorrow!!

Tuesday. 73, 2 more to go!

Hey everybody! Caden here to bring you today's post. I cant believe the blog went from this,

To this,

In less than 75 posts! Though I had some thoughts about a REbrand for the site, and had some ideas. All the credit goes to Matt McElroy for making it happen! He designed the logo and background for the site, Also a BIG thanks to Justin Sulpico and Jake88, who also had some great ideas! Nothing much left to say except the Flames are unveiling there third jersey soon!

To the concepts!

CCCP (Alan John Herbert)

This was a concept for the HJC "If the Soviets returned contest". I like the color balance on the white jersey but not on the red. I would have made the numbers white with a black outline and have no outline on the namebar. The one thing I would change with the white jersey is the red yoke. Just make it white! I would also take the striping off the pants.

Concept Rating 8.6/10

Evansville Rivermen (Caden Patafie {Me})

I'm not going to review this jersey because I designed it. The Evansville Rivermen have announced this to be an option for their new jersey for the 2014/2015 season. Tell us what you think in the comments! Justin can review it Wednesday.

As we near 75 posts of AMAZING readers, Thanks for reading!!!

Wednesday: #cantthinkofatitle

Hey guys. Justin here encouraging all you readers to SEND IN YOUR CONCEPTS!!!!!! We need to post some stuff, why not you send your concepts in to get them posted? Thanks. Now to the concepts made by me and an HCIHL GM.

Dallas Stars Concept by me.

HOLLY CRAPP I FOUND MY FIRST CONCEPT I EVER MADE!! I have nothing to say about it so i'll be quoting HJC writer "jets96" who reviewed it when this was first posted:

"One of the universally agreed best jerseys of the past 20 years is the star hemmed Dallas Stars jerseys, they are amazingly creative, and should still be around. Justin brought them back with the new logo and logo set. I this this idea could work except for one problem. The hem is very well done, and the execution is decent but could use a bit of touching up. The new "Victory Green" should be used all around and not just on the logo. My problem with the ides is that the logo as a whole is a star, it's like a star-caption, the roundel logo may work better here. (7/10)"

Hamilton Stags jersey by Matt McElroy (HCIHL)

HCIHL GM Matt McElroy designed his own teams uniforms and I have to say they are VERY snazzy. I like the green and yellow colour scheme. The uniform itself could be good for an expansion team in the NHL (maybe to Hamilton...just saying). Aside from the Captain's "C" on the wrong side of the chest, I like it. 9/10 and if I were a writer on hockeyjerseyconcepts, this would be a COTW nomination for me.

Have a good rest of your week guys.

-Justin

Monday: Got Any Concepts? No.

No concepts, come on guys we just reached 3000 views and haven't gotten any concepts, to my knowledge, in weeks. And the late posts have been getting worse. I'm sorry that I can't provide any concepts, so I will just leave you with this summary of the HCIHL standings.

  1. Hamilton Stags
  2. Evansville Rivermen
  3. London Sabreswords
  4. Altoona Express
  5. Skopje Lisici (Foxes)
  6. Louisville Lynx
I'm actually quite amazed that I'm in fourth place, because I'm not in first in anything in the stats.

Also, in the trades. The Rivermen have picked up M. Fleury, R. McDonagh, and A. Steen. The Express recently picked up  J. Benn and J. Bernier. As Skopje picked up N. Hjalmarsson.

Bye guys. Lastly remember to send in concepts!

Saturday: Late Post

Hey guys, Jake88 here. We had a bit of confusion on who was doing what post , so I am posting today. I just made a Montana State Yakball concept that will be on my blog tomorrow, along with another Yakball concept, if you want to keep tabs on that check Jake88JerseyConcepts. On to the quickly written description of my Colgate comp. entry!
_________________________________________________________________________

Colgate University Autism Awareness Game Jersey (Jake88/Me)
This, obviously, was my entry to HJC's Colgate comp. First thing I did was add a puzzle pattern to the logo. I also put it in the stripes too. I wanted yoke striping, as I think it's a definite thing a College team would do. I just replaced the pattern with a single puzzle piece for Autism Speaks. I thought about adding light blue to the jersey but decided against it. I hope it wins, but there were better entries in my opinion.

HCIHL standings shortly before time of the press are as follows.

Shortly written post, done. Bye, and hope to see you next post!

Friday

Hey Readers! It's Caden!!!

The pageviews are crashing! Keep coming back each day for new jerseys! I shared my HCIHL predictions Yesterday, and hopefully Justin and Jake can share theirs! Not much going on in the jersey world so, Lets get to the concepts!

Soviet Union Matt McElroy #AllMcElroyAllTheTime
This is Matt McElroy's 2nd concept on HCI, and its a good one! This was for the USSR comp on Hockey Jersey Concepts. The White Jersey is okay, but I really LOVE the black one! The Sublimated(?) stripes and the bold contrast on the logo. Everything just goes together perfectly! I'm not really a fan of the socks though. I'm not sure why you picked that style. It dosen't match the jersey. Even a plain Dimond would look neat! The "CCCP" on the shoulder is a nice touch! The "Kaptin K" looks like an "H" and you might want to fix that.

Concept Rating 9.8/10

Skopje LS Foxes Rickey M.

This is my review of the Skopje LS Foxes HCIHL jerseys, designed by Ricky M. from BNG. I like the logo, and that's it! I don't like the striping or number/NOB font! the colors are ok, but not great. The logo is really cool and makes up for the rest of the design. The 3rd Jersey is Out of the Box and AWESOME! For A 3rd, Its a cool design for a Russian team!

Jersey Rating 7.5/10

The Evansville Icemen Training Camp (which I work at as a stickboy) corresponds with my Fall Break so I spend the whole day at the rink! I like doing that but I'm not able to make many concepts of my own.

Thanks for Reading!

Reader Rating: 10/10!!!

Writing the Post a Day Early

Since it would seem that Caden is isn't here to write the post I have decided to step in. Not sure what to write about, I mean really, how long has it been since any jersey news has come out, or anything like it. As the Altoona Express manager, I have high hopes for the games tonight, even though we are currently losing to the Evansville Rivermen 28.4 to 7.7, I think we can turn that around. At least I can say I'm not the Skopje Foxes (Lisici in Macedonian), they are losing 37 to -0.1 against the Hamilton Stags "superteam". Sorry Ricky! Any way I hope I can watch my Pens beat New Jersey in their first game of the season, and get my favorite Pens player Jussi Jokinen some points for fantasy and for Pittsburgh (in real life). Also my "superplayer" Steven Stamkos can zap (Lightning pun) the crap (rhyme) out of Boston! On to the concepts!
_________________________________________________________________________
Altoona Express (HCIHL) (Matt McElroy)
Oh my Gosh! My fantasy team made better! In the logos, not really the jerseys though. This concept has so much potential, but sadly doesn't deliver the way the manager would like to see. I'm going to try to grade this like I never saw the ones I made, just based on my likings of a jersey. Ok the logo, despite being at least 100,000 times better than mine, could use some work. I'd try working with a different shape other than a circle, maybe, like you said use a Keystone? Or a square to make it look like it's coming out of a tunnel. Try playing with those, and if you already did, I guess the circle works. One more thing about the logo, I don't like how the font it on an almost opposite angle than the train. My suggestion for that would be to straighten it out. On to the jerseys. I like the shade of gold that I used better than the shade used here, mine I believe is more metallic and fits in more with the train theme. I have to say I really don't like the jerseys that much, either. I meant for the Express to be a modern team with classic elements, but the side panels and cut of hem striping are some of the things I dislike the most. Instead of the side panels I'd just replace them with full striping and no side panels. One other thing that got on my nerves when I saw this concept is that on the white jersey that the number outline (just the outline) should be reversed so the gold is on the inside and the black on the outside. Logo Rating 8/10 (still miles better than anything that I could come up with) Jersey Rating 6/10

I am actually, for the first time in a while feeling inspired enough to make a hockey jersey, and I will use that for the Colgate competition, but the Yakball inspiration is still soaring above that. I've competed one team's branding that I am proud of (Yeah Matt, I'm practicing, just not with hockey!). I am starting on my second team branding that I will have to put on hold due to the Colgate comp. Ok thanks for reading and maybe Caden will write tomorrow.

*EDIT BY CADEN*
At time of press, these are the HCIHL scores. Enjoy!

My HCIHL standing predictions for the 13/14 season (unbiased) are,

*1: Hamilton Stags
*2: Evansville Rivermen
*3: Louisville Lynx
*4 Skopje LS Foxes
 5: London SabreSwords
 6: Altoona Express (Sorry Jake!)

You can check the live scores HERE!

End of a Month

Hi everyone! Jake88 here. It's your favorite day of the week! Not Humpday and certainly Friday, it's MONDAY! The day where you go back to school or work, or both I guess, depending on your age. Today also marks the end of the month of September, marking the first *full* month of HCI, sure we had most of August, but this is the only full month. Also to be noted, is the Jersey of the Month contest, in which the HCI staff will decide on what jersey is worthy. I've been working on some Yakball concepts (two separate links), as they help get my mind off of hockey, and afterward help me create better concepts. If you would like to see some of them, check my personal blog. On to the concepts!

London Sabreswords (By Alan John Herbert)
The HCIHL's own London Sabreswords, are the team used in this concept. The artist featured in this concept is also the team manager. I like how Alan uses his own fonts for this concept, but I don't think that they necessarily go with this concept. I also would make the striping on the white jersey black, to go along with the green jersey. Do I really have a problem with this concept? No, but something, I don't know exactly what it is, isn't grabbing me. Concept Rating 7.7/10

Cross League Classic: Rochester Americans V.S. EC Düsseldorf (Jake88/Me)
For my second Cross League Classic game I feature a DEL team V.S. Rochester. On the Düsseldorf jersey I made a custom collar style that is like a shirt collar. If you'd like, you can download the template for that here, with credit of course. Other than that,I think both jerseys are pretty self-explanatory myself, so I will let you judge how they look.

Have a great week! And until I see you guys on Friday, Good-Bye!

*Edit By Caden*

The September Jersey of the Month winner is...

Jake88's Toronto Marlies Concept Set!!!
