Monday: No Upsets Here!

Well we have a championship game! The Rivermen will be playing the Stags in the final! Well it will be a good game to say the least! With the Lynx and Foxes losing, they will play in the Winners Consolation Ladder, and the Express and Sabreswords keep playing in the Consolation Ladder.
Before we go any farther, I want to say that I made the worst possible GM decision I could yesterday. To have a better shot at winning the game with +10 goalie points, I went out and signed Karri Ramo, since none of my goalies were starting. Now Ramo let in 6 goals that night to the Sens, making him a -11.5. In final score of the Sabreswords game, I lost by 9.7 points. In the end, if I hadn't signed Ramo, I would have won.

These are the HCIHL Scores.

1 Hamilton Stags 426.4 - 4 Skopje Lisici 329.9
2 Evansville Rivermen 416.8 - 3 Louisville Lynx 356.5
5 London Sabreswords 289 - 6 Altoona Express 279.3

Pitt Panthers (Nick S.)
Right Now Pitt only has an ACHA team, but not an Div. 1 team, in fact the only colleges in PA that have teams are Robert Morris (Pittsburgh), Penn State (State College), and Mercyhurst (Erie). In my opinion Temple or someother east Pennsylvanian university should get a team, but that's for another time. I've never liked how Pitt uses black in their branding, and, even though I don't like it, I wish it was on the Blue jersey. Right now the way you don't have enough contrast compared to the white jersey. I've also never liked how that collar looks when it is colored in, one thing that Nike got right (not coloring in that style of color). I would also use a Block style of font to match the wordmark. 7.3/10

Well that's it for today, looking forward to the HCIHL playoffs and championships, and I hope you are too!

Saturday: Thrashed Jays!?!

Hey everyone, this is day one of my long weekend from work, hopefully my long weekend gets snowed in. Today is another one concept from an concept artist, and other from me. But first in my non hockey rant, last week I went to see the LEGO movie and believe me the movie said "Everything is Awesome!" Boy how everything about this movie is awesome! I enjoyed this movie and I recommend any LEGO fans to watch this movie, or be like other people and wait until it released on DVD. Well enough of my life story on to concepts.

Creighton Blue Jays NCAA Concept [by Ricky M.]
Up points: The use of the the Jays logo with the "C" in the background is an good idea. Using the Toronto Blue Jays old fonts was risky, but to my surprise it fit the theme that I'm seeing here.
Down points: The design on both home, and road jersey are cool, but on the white jersey the colors choice put together feels like it placed backwards to me. On the the dark jersey it's lack white, the only white I see is on the logo, trim on the nameplate, and trims around the numbers, it looks unfinished to me. Lastly the alternate jersey design is good, but just seems doesn't fit for the Blue Jays to me.
My suggestion: On the white jersey switch the blue 2 and blue 4. Add some white on the dark jersey.  Lastly give the alternate something classic look that fit both the logo, and the fonts.

Atlanta Thrashers Concept [by me]
I took there pre-edge powder blue jersey and gave it some tweaks, I made navy blue as their main color, I replaced the word "Atlanta" with "Thrashers", and add there arrows strip on their empty arm side and on the side of there pants just give it a little more of a Hockey game look than a some what of a practice jersey.

Well that's today post, before I go, I got another video from the magical world of youtube. Today what do you get a Maple Leafs Dion Phaneuf, and the Muppets? You get a song! Enjoy the video, til then, later.

Friday: Post-Halloween Special; Also Some B10

Hello Everybody! Who's still on a sugar high from last night? Not me! I had hockey last night so even if I wanted to go out and get candy for free, I couldn't. I think that my team does that on purpose so we don't rot out our teeth. Anyway, the Express carry the lead over the undefeated Stags into tonight, but I'm sure that they plan on erasing that soon. We will see on Sunday if the Stags will be 5-0 or 4-1.

London Sabreswords (HCIHL) (Alan John Herbert)
This is pretty cool. Alan makes a special Halloween Night jersey for his HCIHL team the Sabreswords. I like the modified logo with the Pumpkin instead of the "S". The font truly works with this jersey, although I would have the white outline touch the black number. That is my only complaint. One note: If you want to check out what Alan was going for with this jersey, check it out here. Concept Rating 8/10 (For the fact that the jersey is just a recolor of that Bruins jersey).

Northwestern Wildcats (Jake88/Me)
Ok, I have to explain this before it gets torn apart. The jersey is based on the schools football uniforms. Which have a chest stripe that continues to the arms. I figured doing another chest stripe would be predictable so I did a hem stripe that continues as cuffs. Since that style of look works on the Montreal Canadiens white jersey so I think that it wouldn't look bad here. One more note. Check out the pants, I really wanted to put the number instead of a team logo on the pants, so I figured this would be a time to it.

About time for me to end this post so have a good day and bye!

Monday: 'Ello All

'Ello all! I have a new concept that I can share with you guy's along with an older concept by Ricky Mazella. You may know Ricky from his blog Buffalo Nickel Graphics or as the owner of the HCIHL's Skopje Lisici, whose scores for this week will be later in the post. Without further ado, here are the HCIHL scores!

Skopje Lisici 145.3 - London Sabreswords 127.2
Hamilton Stags 167.5 - Evansville Rivermen 143.5
Altoona Express 135 - Louisville Lynx 114.1

So how about them Stags? 4-0! Make that 4-1 once my Express *win this week!

*Subject to change

Yeah.... Concepts?

Michigan State Spartans (Jake88/Me)
Even with a "M" team I decided on the beautiful (Classically Beautiful) Spartan logo. The striping on the green jersey is classic and to my surprise what the team uses now. But no, the jerseys aren't the same, but yes they are extremely close, all I did (this without researching the actual jerseys) was flip the hem stripe, and a few other minor changes. I thought that the fake laces collar didn't look horrible in green so those are used. The white jerseys are different though. Not much to say about them, so next concept!

Boston Bruins (Ricky Mazella)
The aforementioned Ricky brings us this surprisingly good concept for a team that is hard to make a good concept for. I like how realistic it is, in the sense of that the yoke has only small edits and the striping remains classic. I'd be a huge fan of the Bruins wearing yellow, maybe not full time, but everything looks good so all that is left is the rating. Concept Rating 8.7/10

So, remember that concept that I showed everyone awhile ago? The Maple Leafs one? I decided to remake it as a Mississauga Steelheads concept. Look for that soon! Bye!

Saturday, college M day.

Hello reader folk! Not much to write about in jersey news. But tomorrow the Flames are releasing their highly anticipated 3rd jersey. I like the jersey and shoulder patches leaked on NHL 14, but not the baseballesque script + logo. It will be interesting to see and if Justin writes tomorrow, which he has to. I will be busy. He can give us the whole shtick. Since you are all busy and don't like listening to my rambling, I will be using William Butala's Yay or Nay review system again, to see what you think. Since none of you gave your review on the review yesterday. I'm rambling again! To the concepts!

Maryland Terrapins Jake88
Jake88 bring us the first of 2 concepts for today.

Yay,
The flag striping
The font
The color balance
The UnderArmour template

Nay,
The triangle pants stripe, I would make it thinner and straight down.
The cuffs on the white jersey
The collar colors
Also, Since the "M" is so boring. I would have a wordmark or logo on the red one. And relocate the M to the shoulders

Overall,
When I first saw this concept, I fell in love with the flag stripes. Especially with a busy flag like Maryland's. Pulling that off is difficult. The font choice matched up well too.

Concept Rating, 8.75/10

Jake88 with his second "college M concept" of the day

Yay,
The arm stripes
The pants stripes
The sock stripes, ok. Just ALL THE STRIPES

Nay,
Bland/Boring template. Unlike the last one, which was awesome!
The colors, I would have had yellow as the main dark color with a maroon accent.
The yoke on the white. I think unless it portrays to the area is in (like flag stripes) college jerseys should be somewhat simple.

Concept Rating 8/10

It's my 2nd day in a row writing! Whooo. What do you guys think of the way I reviewed the jerseys? Anything I forgot to mention? Just tell me in the comments! And keep sending in your concepts! hockeyconceptideas@gmail.com

Thanks for reading!

Monday: One (Now Three) Before the Diamond

Welcome to the last post before HCI's diamond anniversary! It's amazing to me because I have been on this blog since the fifth or sixth post. Caden can also tell us how far this blog has come too, from the very amataure header with the plain background, to the Matt Mc. redesign of the blog, HCI deserves this 74th post! Anyway, the HCIHL scores after week 3 are as follows:

UPDATE: Ok just realized that this is not HCI's 74th post, rather it's 72nd. Two drafts can really affect that Blogger counting system. Ugh

Hamilton Stags 128.5 - Louisville Lynx 120.3
London Sabreswords 139.8 - Altoona Express 125.8
Skopje Lisici 139.5 - Evansville Rivermen 125.8

Excuse me for not looking this up in the HCIHL rules, but I wonder what would happen if Altoona played Evansville. The scores are exactly the same and it doesn't look like there is any place for a tie in the standings. It would be pretty cool actually if they played eachother just to see the suspense near the end.

Team Greece (Alan John Herbert)
This concept (like Cadens Israel concept) was for the HJC IIHF Bottom Ten comp. I really like Alan's simplification of Greece's logo. It really makes up for the jersey being so "stripey". The striping on the yoke even though I like them in most cases, look unnecessary on this concept.  One more thing, if you want the pants to be be striped like that, I would make it a tad smaller. The number/name font looks fine and so does the collar. Concept Rating 8.2/10

Penn State Nittany Lions (Jake88/Me)
First I have to say this. Sadly the Cross League Classic designing is finished. After I made the first four teams I kinda lost interest and decided on a Big 10 redesign instead. For this concept I wanted I chest stripe as I was thinking how amazing it would with the PSU Lion logo. In my opinion the extended yoke would look bad in white so I went with two different designs. Asking why I didn't just make a matching design for the blue sweater? I have a reason. Some of the earlier PSU jerseys had extended yokes on them (I can't find a picture online, but I know that I saw it somewhere) and I always wanted to make a chest stripe with an extended yoke jersey. Also I get to go to my first Penn State game on Friday night! Really excited and I would be even more excited if they came on the ice wearing those :-).

Also, a note for my whole Big 10 redesign series. I will be doing teams that don't have a D1 team and teams that join the B10 in 2014.

Well that ends todays post. Hope you liked! Bye.

LaboUr Day (Canada) Labor Day (US) Monday (Everywhere Else)

Sup? Caden here! Sorry for the late post, I had school! Strange I know.

On to the Concepts!

Jake starts us off with a Ducks Concept. Its a good design but im not a fan of the stripes or yoke on either of the three jerseys. Its a great idea though and i wouldn't mind the Ducks wearing these!

Concept rating 7.55/10

I LOVE this concept! Its hard to make a Swift jersey look good! I don't like the weird side panels that go across the middle of the jersey under the numbers, but except for that its great! I would also have a second blue helmet to wear with the away jersey.

Concept Rating 8/10

Friday, August 30, 2013

Thank Goodness It's Friday

As the ECHL season is just around the corner, I'm busy getting things ready for the Evansville Icemen! Thats why the post is so late! What jersey do you want to win JOTM? Email us and let us know!

Alan John Herbert starts us off with a concept for the " North Bay Battalion" a OHL team. The execution on the jersey is great! butttt..... I'm really not a fan of the shoulder yoke going up and around the reebok wordmark on the back of the jersey.  I would also have the Helmet match the equipment, aka Black helmet or green pants.

Good concept overall so I think it can get away with 8/10

Jake88 gives us a almost perfect Montana State concept. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the "Baby Poop Brown" (term coined by Nashville's old 3rd) Third jersey but it could work. I would also put the "M" on the shoulders of the home and away jerseys and the "Bobcat" on the alternate shoulder.

Concept Rating, Another 8/10 for Jake88
