Friday: The Hockey Rangers are Very Prevalent

We have two concepts today and by the way I got another new hockey jersey (and a baseball one)! I'm even bidding on a third one. While you'll get to see them, first thing's first. We have two concepts one is new and one is not. One is by an HCI writer and one is not. One has an alternate and one does not. One has some red and one does not. See a pattern here? I am beating around the bush a little too much, but all in good fun. Let's get to both right . . . NOW!

Creighton Bluejays
Submitted by: Justin Sulpico

As you may recall, our Sunday writer Justin Sulpico submitted this into our Creighton Bluejays competition a few weeks ago. While I don't like that he has brought back the old wordmark, Everything else is spot on His came in third place, but had I voted (like I thought I did) this would've been my selection. I'm not sold on the number font, but it makes sense and could be a lot worse than other fonts.

Submitted by: Matt McElroy

This Rangers Shield logo is a step backwards for the Rangers, who I'm guessing won't change still for at least another 10 years with the way technology is going. The red pants and its striping will be around, I'm sure. But wait, what is this?! The classic yoke striping is gone from the road white! Due to the classic yoke, I would get rid of what has been put in place and put the classic yoke back.

Though you've seen the Buffalo Sabres one already, I didn't have my camera handy as it was left in my dad's vehicle. Speaking of the Sabres (eh?), their front office layout has changed with the hiring of Tim Murray formerly of the Ottawa Senators as general manager (among other hires). Note the Christmas decor is still up from Orthodox Christmas in this picture (though there really isn't anything commercialized about it). The latter two came in yesterday so I was really excited - it made me forget about other bad news (home stuff) for a while, that is until I had to go back to it. I'm still working on the "acid trip" bidding (now at US $61 when last I checked yesterday night). Even though the Halos are a baseball team, I included it anyway.

All in all, we had a solid day at the office. It's a matter of time until teh HCIHL's Skopje Foxes continue to climb up in the standings. After an emphatic win last week, they are continuing on that good momentum to start this week. They could be in a heat for second place at the end of the game week. But no matter, off to create more concepts I go.

Thursday. Cancellations, Concepts and -4

So yeah. The Icemen home game this week was cancelled because Toledo's bus couldn't make it to Evansville because of the ice. The Icemen traveled straight to Greenville to play a 2 in 2 there and try to regain 1st place as we are only 1 point behind Cincinatti. In Evansville outside the hockey team, it is as low as -4° F and  only as high as 20°. When we start the new compitition I I will let you know! I'm working out final details and working with our usual contest banner designer to come up with a banner and logo and such. In HCIHL news the Rivermen are currently having a bad week with ## points compared to London's ##. So yeah, concepts...

Retro Modern Wild Wing (Ricky Mazella)
It's always nice to see a series on HCI. It makes readers want to come back for more, and it seems complete. Not just an out of the blue random redesign of a team or such. This is what designer Ricky Mazella had to say about his new "Retro Modern" series. "The idea is to take designs from the pre-Edge jerseys and create them with modern franchise schematics, taking old elements and applying them to new concepts (as it pertains to concept making)."

What I like: The Ducks need a full time orange jersey. The striping good as well

What I don't like: the design isn't that creative. It's just the original wild wing jersey with minimal modifications. Aniheim for the series I would have tried to do a slanted striping (like the old eggplant) orange, black, and bronze jersey with the "D" as the crest and the original duck mask logo on the shoulders.

Concept Rating: It's hard to rate this, because I see where you are coming from. Yet I don't think the design is that creative nor do I like the original wild wing jersey. The series looks cool though.

Pittsburgh Pens (Matthew McElroy)

So McElroy made and sent in his complete NHL redesign at one time, and we just have to finish posting them.

What I like: The template. Not IceBorn in general, but the striping and off color arms on this specific jersey. I like the mismatching hem stripes also. Both jerseys are colored.

What I don't like: Switch the logo and we could have a Bruins jersey. I'm not really a fan of black and gold Pittsburgh concepts. They switched from that scheme for a reason. I would rate the blue Pittsburgh colors 2nd on my list below Vegas gold.

If this striping was either blue or Vegas gold, a 9/10 but for now, a 7.5 out of 10 from personal preference.

Thanks for reading! Leave a comment and tell you freinds about the blog! Come back tomorrow as former HJC writer Ricky Mazella "tackles" his 5th post of his HockeyConceptIdeas career, as the Indy Colts continue in the NFL playoffs.

Wednesday. Quick fill in for Jake

Sorry about the post being late, Jake never wrote one. So yeah. When Jake sends me the new banner we will start the new comp. I might just wait till Sunday.

Minnasota Wild (Justin Sulpico)
I like the idea. I would make it more match the new white "hot" one. Give the numbers a red outline, change vintage white to white, and change the logo to the bear head logo. The vector reebok logo should be the wordmark. The red collar insert is a nice touch.

A 8/10

Sorry that the post is late and small. I'm sure Jake's power is out or something. He normally is good with the scheduling. I will write tomorrow as well, a normal post. So check in at 1:30 EST, 12:30 CST, 11:30 AM Mountian, and so on.

Tuesday. Ah! So close!

For the entire week, the Rivermen/Stags matchup was really close, The Rivermen deactivated high scorer Shane Doan from the IR and we had two straight wins from Marc Fluery and the Pens. Alas, Hamilton beat us by only 11 points. It was so dissapionting as we are now back to .500 and tied with Louisville for 2nd place. I would just like to say that I heard from a sports writer here in Evansville that went to the Winter Classic that it was 10$ for a cup of hot chocolate. I think for that the Michigan Wolverines are not a very good organization when there are 105,000 people there they could make way enough money charging 3! That might not even be true, but I heard that. We have a couple nice concepts for today, so let's not waste time with my ranting. New competition coming soon.

Staidum Series LA (Matt Ware)

The first Matt of the day gives us a orange vs black matchup for staidum series one of 3 (or 4). I like the logos on both jerseys. The color balance is good, but I am concerned about the amount of black on the Anehiem jersey. If a LA player was watching the puck and just saw the bottom of the jersey he could easily mistake him for a player on his own team. Not really many concerns about execution. The striping looks spectacular.

Concept Rating: Ducks 8/10, Kings 9/10

San Jose Sharks (Matt McElroy)
So Matt McElroy went to the Winter Classic, and got a custom (ugh) Red Wings jersey for Christmas, but I don't envy him at all. If it was a Leafs jersey...

The more grey the less orange in any San Jose concept is the way to go. I like the font and the way the striping is laid out. No front numbers! Yay! I think the pants would look better with a grey stripe near the bottom, like the Isles Staidum Series pants. And the black outline on the green numbers on the away blends. I would have gone with grey numbers with a black outline on both jerseys.

Concept Rating: 9.4/10

It's kinda late, but my parents gave me this (along other things) for Christmas. If you can't see what it is it's a quilt made with a bunch of my Dad's old hockey shirts and sweaters from teams he's worked for.
Just thought I would share. I also got NHL 13 (I stay behind one year to save money) Madden 13, and another controller to go with my new Xbox (360). But this creative hockey themed quilt was the highlight of my Christmas.

Did you like the lineup of concepts? What is your opinion on the Michigan Wolverines charging $10 for a cup of hot chocolate at the winter classic? Would you leave a different review/rating for any of the jerseys? Leave a comment! It's what they're there for.

Monday: Back to School (Ugh)

Funny how my last few posts fell on Christmas, and New Years day, and then I have to post on such a bad day as this. We have a new competition coming so keep tabs on that. Now I know that I'm getting kindKa boring, so lets get to our two concepts! Oh wait, the HCIHL scores.

Hamilton Stags 242.2 - Evansville Rivermen 231.6
Skopje Lisici (Foxes) 215 - London (ON) Sabreswords 162.1
Louisville Lynx - 161.6 Altoona Express 94.4

Now we can move on!

Phoenix Coyotes 3rd Jersey (Alan H.)
Alan, our Saturday writer and GM of the HCIHL team stationed in London, Ontario, gives us a pretty good concept that I barely have any complaints on. First, you gotta love that Aztec esque striping, and the colors only make it better. The logo works, but really could be interchangeable with the leaping Coyote. The number font may look better with an outline, but looks good as is. One pet peeve I've always had with concepts with striping like this is that it isn't on the socks, in my opinion it looks kinda out of place with the rest on the jersey so I'd put it on there. The equipment would look much better in black (except for the helmet). Concept Rating 8.1/10

Heritage Classic 2016 (Justin S.)
Second time writer Justin gives us an O.K. 2016 Heritage Classic concept. We now know that Winnipeg will be in a outdoor game of some type, but not against who. The Jets one looks perfect, only a lace up collar would make it better. The Canucks one is good too, I just might get rid of the phantom yoke. The real problem that I have with this concept, is that jerseys aren't classic enough. Think of all the classic jerseys that they wear for the Classics, but I don't think these will fit in. Concept Rating 7.1/10

So how did like todays post? Remember, we can have 3-4 concept days if you send your concepts in, so don't waste your time, DO IT NOW! Well that's all for today, bye and thanks for reading!
