Wednesday: Playoff Hockey? Great!

Hello everyone, and welcome to HCI!
It's been an eventful week for me so far, as my Babcia (Great Grandmother, Polish) passed away because of cancer. :( Although, she lived a very long life, as she was 100 years old! She told a story that when she was a little girl, she was in a refugee camp - and a bomb was flying her way...an opposing (I think) soldier was either trying to push her into the bomb, or probably to get her out of the way. The soldier was struck and she was able to escape.

Playoff hockey has been great so far, but it's too bad that so many good teams get eliminated in the first round. Like St.Louis, and the loser of LA vs SJ.

Now on to the concepts:

Justin S. - Calgary Flames

Justin is here with a Flames concept! The home and away jerseys remind me of the old flames jerseys! The colours of the striping is good, instead of using the old Calgary alt logo, you could recolour the main Flames logo. I just don't really like that alt Flames logo. The alternate has the beloved (to me anyways) arm striping, although the random red stripe just before the TV numbers, and the yellow and black caution stripes I don't like. They should be changed to maybe solid yellow or white? Pretty good concept from Justin!

I recently made a Toronto Maple Leafs logo, (in production of my Heritage Classic HABS VS LEAFS concept) so here it is! I traced a real maple leaf and I think it turned out pretty well.

That's all for this post...thanks for reading!

Monday: A Blue and White Kinda Day

Hello everybody who reads this blog, I'm Jake Miller (Jake88) and I will be writing you post. I hope everyone enjoyed the first two Stadium Series game, I will get to see the fourth.
Oh Wait, I didn't tell the twitter world or the Internet in general about that. Well I found out after my post and well I can't wait to sit in below freezing temperatures and watch a hockey game from 100 feet away. Just joking, even with those downsides it's going to be a really fun time. The only downside is that I miss a hockey tournament in Detroit, with my team. The other upside is that my Grandparents bought me a Jussi Jokinen stadium series jersey. And again I can't wait until it comes. The HCIHL scores will be added later.

Toronto Maple Leafs (By Joey F.)

Joey's concept starts us out with a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey that blends era pretty well. Not sure about how the logo would full time, and as much as I'm a fan of chest stripes, I think Southern Quebec would have a riot if an other time, especially their biggest rivals, wore chest stripes. (Meanwhile northern Quebec countinues to be able to support a hockey team in Quebec City, but can't, Please help this wonderful city get the NHL team they rightfully deserve). The yoke is from the 70's and 80's, and the striping pattern (on the socks now) is from the 30's. I wouldn't use Boston's unique font, but rather one from the Leafs currents. (Speaking of fonts, I recommend that everybody looks at Conrad's custom font thread at sportslogos.net). The lace collar looks nice, but I wish the hem striping matched the sleeve striping. Concept Rating: 7.5/10

Johnstown Jets Throwback (By Jake88/Me)
Well my team has been doing good of late, with us being on a four game winning streak, and winning 9 out of the last ten games we've played. I didn't want to use the script Jets logo, and I didn't want to use Johnstown, since we spilt the city with another team. I kinda based it off the Toronto jerseys we wear (the socks). I thought putting the name in the yoke would look good and it did. I figured that NO ONE would buy vintage equipment for the game, so I used the current equipment. By the way, I have and wear gloves like that for games. I hope you like it!

Well that's all for today, thanks for reading and I'll probably see everyone on Wednesday.

Thursday: Thanksgiving in the US

So today's Thanksgiving in the US, and well I'm thankful for...

My family
Friends
Hockey
Concepts
Ideas

See what I did there.

Anyway later today I'm going to feast on some turkey, and I'm already wanting it now! Check our Twitter page for our weekly bonus concept featured on Sunday. As Caden told you yesterday, we have picked up a new writer, Ricky Mazella, and his first post will be tomorrow. Since Caden didn't promote it on the new Questions and Answers page, I suggest you check it out. It has answers to questions from our writers and it tells you a bit more about us. On to the concepts!

Ottawa 67's (By Alan John Herbert)
These jerseys are quite similar to the currents but certainly not identical. Alan updates the logo along with adding a black shoulder yoke to the red jersey. In my opinion, both of those moves improve upon the currents. The white jersey, though is a lateral move though. I think I might prefer the current extended yoke a bit more, but both are fine. Concept Rating: 8/10

Evansville Thunder Youth Ice Hockey Team (By Caden P.)
This is Caden's old hockey team, and have one of the better original logos that I've seen in Junior hockey (my Jets have the best! :woot:). But anyway, the black jersey looks good, the white stripes make the purple pop, but the white jersey doesn't. The black mixes in with the purple so I'd put a white stripe in between them. Also I'd add a grey stripe in the middle of the stripe. Concept Rating 7.6/10

Toronto Maple Leafs 4th Jersey (By Steve M.)
The Maple Leafs had uniforms like this from the 1970's until 1992, but Steve shows us that they can still work. The originality comment that I had on Steve's Sharks concept applies here too. I do like the return of the name font though. Suggestion: Try to incorperate different eras of Toronto jerseys in this to make it better. It's another good jersey, but yet again, the lack of originality hurts the grade. Concept Rating: 6.5/10

Anaheim Ducks Stadium Series Prediction Concept (Jake88/Me)
I made this as I was writing this post. It uses elements from the "hockey bear" t-shirt design and the recently released Islanders jersey. Also note the semi-elongated numbers and helmet stripes. If it is anything close to the design I'll be suprised.

I hope you can agree with the reviews that I was giving.

In other news my blog had it's first post since September so check it out. Also the Islanders unveiled their Stadium Series jersey which looks sweet, if you ask me. If the Pens design is close to looking as good as that, sign me up for one! Thank you for reading and enjoy your Thanksgiving diner (if you live in the US)!

Posting About a Concept Made in June

Hi guys. On the schedule that Caden sent me, today and Monday where my days to post, so I won't let him down, even though some writers who will remain unnamed seem to have forgotten...
 ___________________________________________________________________________________

Toronto Maple Leafs (Jake88/Me)
Well, I made this a long time ago, or at least it would seem that way, five months isn't really that long when you look at it. The reason I wanted to show you guys this is because this was the first concept of mine on HJC, here is the post that it was on (my first rated concept on HJC was on this post). What is really funny about this is that I did many concepts before this concept that I never send in, and looking back on it, I probably should've. For this concept I wanted to add silver back into the color scheme and did so by outlining the numbers, logo, and the extended yoke in silver. There are a lot of things that I would change now, but I still think I did Ok for my first concept on HJC.

So, think I should make an update to that concept, I actually think that I will now that I think about it. So you can look forward to that next post.

Post for the "Night Owls" !

Sorry for the Lateness! Me and Jake have been busy and Justin hasn't contacted me, so I guess I [Caden] will be writing today's post!

HCIHL scores (At time of press)

These scores aren't final, but the Rivermen pretty have their game in the bag. I would almost dare to say that for Altoona too! The London/Hamilton game is pretty close though! Tomorrow when I get a chance I will put the Final scores on the HCIHL website.

On to the Concepts!

Toronto Maple Leafs (Justin Sulpico)

Justin gives us a "Team Canadaish" jersey set for our 1st concept today and I (here comes the scorn) REALLY LIKE IT! If you took all extra leaves off like around the captins "C" and on the back, and then made the stripes straight. You would have a great jersey! I'm a fan of out of the box stuff (as you see with 75% of my concepts) and this is great! The triangle stripes don't match the look of the jersey so I have to give this jersey a

6.9/10

Evansville Icemen (Jake88)

Jake has a concept for my favorite team, The Evansville Icemen! I like the striping and font, the choice of colo(u)rs and everything! I would have done the "Face" on the helmet, or just the regular logo. The wordmark doesn't stand out enough! One note for your future ECHL concepts, their is a new rule in the ECHL that mandates the wool socks. Instead of the synthetic ones. To benefit lower budget teams.  Also gloves have to be one color and Reebok edge jerseys aren't allowed.

Concept Rating 9.5/10

Thanks for reading! The next post from each writer will tell what they thought of "Mighty" Aniheim Ducks throwback night! Stay tuned!!!

Thanks for reading!
