Wednesday: The 164st

I know 164 isn't very important, but it's been awhile since HCI has had a number as a post name. And quite frankly, I'm out of titles. I forgot to put this in my post on Monday, so I thought it wasn't too late to put it in now. My hockey team went on a bus trip to play a double A team in Prince William, Virginia. The first game was close, just not as much on the scoreboard, the final score was 2-0. The second game (the main reason I wanted to include this in the post) was again close, 3-2, the final, but not the reason I wanted to write about it. The team from Prince William decided to wear bright pink jerseys honoring breast cancer patients. At first it was a bit "hard" on the eyes, but after a little while, I got used to it and it was normal. I just find it pretty cool that they would do something like that. Well that's my little story, now for the reason you came, the concepts!

Atlanta Thrashers (By Dallas K.)
Though I'd never be in favor of another team in Atlanta, I wouldn't mind if they wore jerseys like this. I don't think the space in the striping is necessary and with that change the striping on the white jersey should be Maroon, Yellow, Blue. Another thing I thought about when I first reviewed it, is the blankness of the hem. I think a normal hem stripe would be pretty boring, but maybe if you used a type of side panel striping similar to their old alternate, yeah the Motocross plus Football equals horrible hockey jersey alternate. If you make that line up with the arm striping I think that for a modern jersey it would look pretty good! Concept Rating 7.8/10

Carolina Hurricanes (By Dallas K.)
Now here's a southern city that should have a team. Carolina, has been a team with sellout crowds, unlike Dallas, and Florida. The striping, though it fits the logo, looks too Tampa. I would like it more if the yoke had a little zig zag in it too. I also don't really like the new logos, and I don't think Charlotte's logo fit's the main club. There should be more black in the white jersey and maybe some white in the black. Concept Rating 6.9/10

Tuesday: Hurricanes in Minnesota???

So. How's your Tuesday? I'm writing this while watching Duck Dynasty and looking at Evansville Rivermen stats off two straight losses. We lead the Altoona Express 14.8 to -4 after one day, So I think we're doing better. My computer is broken and I'm writing this on my iPad, I will have the competition stuff up as soon as possible. Sorry. We have some good concepts today with a talented designers. So let's go!

Carolina Hurricanes [Justin Sulpico]

Justin Sulpico brings us a boxy Canes concept. I like simple concepts. Simple is the new... What? I wish you would have kept it simple. The red stripe could be narrower, the black one thicker. I would have outlined the black one on the home jersey with white. Though the hurricane flag aspect on the jerseys is interesting, I would have toned it down hella lot. Mabye have it as a captaincy patch. With too much it looks youth leaguey.

Concept rating 5.6/10, with the changes made a easy 8/10

Minnesota Wild [Matt McElroy]

I'm honestly so fed up with Minnesota's identity crisis that if the two jerseys match, I will like them 100X better. I might be exaggerating a little, but the Wild need matching jerseys. These don't exactly match, but they are the same design. I like the vintage white jersey, I would have added a vintage white stripe on the pants. I would also have used the font from the Wild's new white jersey, and made the logo 4% larger. A small but big change.

A nice Minn concept with minimal flaws. A 9/10

If you think it's cool to have your concepts reviewed by one of our 5 talented writers? You can send in your own concepts at hockeyconceptideas@gmail.com

Saturday: 3 way dance

Hello I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to.

Blue Jays Comp entries due "TONIGHT!"
By Jake88

Last week was head to head of Stadium Series concepts. Today I decide to raise the bar up with "3 way dance!" That's right! I got 3 alternate concepts here to see which one is the best! Let's get going shall we.

Carolina Hurricanes alternate concept [by Dylan W.]
Up points: Nice style on the hem stripe. The logos is an good choice to use. Two stripes on the collar is thumbs up from me.
Down points: The arm stripes doesn't have the same treatment as the hem. Good choice of number fonts, but on the back two 4s is too close together to my mind.
My Suggestion: Give the arm stripes the same treatment as the hem stripe, and space out the back numbers a little bit apart.

Dallas Stars alternate concept [by Jake88]
Up points: Using the state logo on the front is a good move. Adding trim on the numbers is an good idea.
Down points: The jersey is good, but it has that minor vibe to it. The only silver I see is on the logo and not anywhere else. The trims on the numbers looks like it blend together that is hard to see.
My Suggestion: Add some silver to the jersey to give it more life to it. Change the black, and green trim on the numbers to green and silver.

Chicago Blackhawks alternate concept [by Jeremy R.]
Up Points: This looks classy and nice. Love the arm stripes. The yokes stripes maybe weird, but well placed. Numbers and nameplates are classic and well untouchable.
Down points: The hem looks too plain to me without any black stripes to it. No ID to know who made this, and could potentially be stolen by someone else.
My Suggestion: Give the hem the same treatment as the arm stripes. Add your ID with it, ether your name, your nickname, etc.

The Winner: All three are really matched both ups, and downs. But in the end Jeremy's Blackhawks alternate concept takes the victory today, despite no ID with the concept, but it's an very good concept no doubt about it.

Well that's today's post, tonight I'm off to Wheatley, Ontario to watch some Jr C game between the home team the Wheatley Sharks taking on the Wallaceburg Lakers, It'll be fun for me, and maybe hopefully they sell any game worn jerseys there for me to buy to add to my jerseys collection.
Until then I'm Alan, I'll get elbow to my head, so you don't have to.

Saturday: Day 2: Seeing red!

Hi folks is Saturday you know that means? "More Concepts!"

NHL All-Stars concept (by Brian B.)
An modern form of an classic set, and an 90s set. This one could be a good set. He got the arm stripe right, the choosing of the collar was O.K. Using the Preds numbers, and nameplate is an good move. Modern "NHL" crest and stars with trim on the front gave that classy feel, with modern touch to it. The down point is the hem, and the small numbers down front corner of the hem. My suggestion is remove the small numbers, thin out the hem, and give it the same treatment as the arm stripes. Score: 8/10

Carolina Hurricanes Concept (by Steve)
Another NHL 4th jersey series by Steve, today it's the Carolina Hurricanes. Everything about this jersey is right on the money. The only thing I want to add on this concept is add the hurricane flags on the hems, and "Winner!" Score: 9/10

HC Slavia Praha concept (by Jake88)
This one is my cup of tea. Their current set was plain, but this one give some live to it, sure it just stripes, and piping but good enough spaces to put ads on them. The main logo is beautiful and deserve to be on the front without replaced with ads. The Dallas Stars numbers is an good touch too. Score: 8.5/10

Well that's Saturday. Be here tomorrow for day 3 of my crazy weekend, and remember send in your concepts in. Til then later.

Wednasday. 5 to go!

Sup jersey fans?!? Caden here. I can't believe that the 100th post will be on Monday! It will feature all 3 writers and 6 concepts! Maybe more if you guys send some in! My Eagle Scout project is Saturday at the Icemen game. I am doing a food drive and it's already been well advertised by the Icemen. Inclunding Radio and TV interveiws. I want to fill a bus! So if any of you are in Evansville November 16th, Bring me some food outside the Ford Center!

(I normally don't sound that nasal. I had a cold the day the video was made.)

To the concepts!

Carolina Hurricanes Jake88
The 'Nike NHL thingy is catching on and both of our concepts today are just that!"

Yay;
The sublimated flag stripes
The fact that the coloUrs aren't red and black
The flags on the stripes
The execution

Nay;
The brightness of the colors. That green should stay on the back of your blog.
The font
This may be the son of a Trainer woe, but the helmet logo is way too small

Overall, I like the creativity of this concept, and the execution is perfect. The brightness of the green especially ruins the concept for me

A 7.4/10

Buffalo Sabres Caden P. (Me)

I tried to capture the simplicity of the jerseys Nike is releasing lately, but not be too simple. As Jake pointed out my USA concept was. I also made a off color 3rd. Tell me what you think in the comments, and happy Wednasday!

Thanks for Reading!

Friday

Hey this is your new HCI Friday guest writer Jake88. You may know me from HockeyJerseyConcepts or my blog Jake88JerseyConcepts. If you know me from either of those sites you know I am the European guy, but I am from Pennsylvania and not Europe at all. Enough about me and on today's concepts.

Carolina Hurricanes (Caden)
My admin. Caden brings us the Carolina Hurricanes Harford style. The concept itself isn’t too bad but there are way to many execution errors for it to work. First of all the NHL switched to dark jerseys at home in the 2003-04 season. Secondly the hem stripe on the white jersey differs from the front to the back. Next, the Socks don’t match the jersey striping and the logo is very pixilated. Not to trash Caden’s design, but the jersey is just a recoloring of this, http://www.nhluniforms.com/Whalers/Whalers5.html. Here is my advice to fix this, go to Paint Users Paradise, and they will have all the templates you need. Also since I take that you use paint to make this download  Paint.net, HJC has a Tutorial, and that is what I use for my concepts. Concept Rating 6.8/10

Salavat Yulaev Ufa (Jake88[Me])
This my Ufa jersey for my KHL redesign which you can follow on Jake88JerseyConcepts and on HockeyJerseyConcepts. It is based off of their first KHL Uniforms, with some minor edits. I don’t rate my own concepts so if you like it tell me in the comments. Name On Back (NOB) is for Anton Babchuk.

Thanks, for reading this post and have a good day.
