Tuesday. Starbucks for Fuel.

Hello concept folk! Caden here again on a wonderful Tuesday! We've had a lot of views coming from the "Hockey Memes" page on facebook. So if you're new, Welcome!  It's clear that your on this site, But have you checked the NEW HCIHL website out yet? It has standings, team bios, expansion guide, and more! If you haven't seen it you can always click the HCIHL tab at the top of the page or click here.

There aren't any plans to have smaller posts or none at all over Christmas week. As they say, The show must go on! Trust me, As an admin or a person I wouldn't make Jake write on Christmas Day. There will be a post but it will be prescheduled for the usual time of 1:30 EST. Keep checking in for updates. After Christmas we will have a new contest but we are still in the planning stage at this time. More to come! Tis the season to have concepts! Fa La La La La...

Blue Jays Comp entries due Saturday!

Indy Fuel [Alan John Herbert]

Weekend writer Alan submitted this as his entry to the Indy Fuel contest, and it ended up winning!
I like the way the stripes were done on the home (white) jersey. The black helmet looks good and would work with the white jersey too in this case. The pants stripe would benefit from losing the yellow. And speaking of yellow, It's not prominent enough in the logo to have that much importance in the red jerseys striping. I would have switched the black and the yellow. I would have also made either the Numbers/NOB black or the outline black because yellow on white doesn't really work. Another thing I don't like is there is no homage to Indianapolis. Indy has enough history that you could have done something with it. Dylan did the car tire tracks and me and McElroy did the checkered flag pattern (McElroy much more subtly). That's my only beef with the set as a whole and if you fix the colo(u)r balance on the red jersey you got it!

You finished the race! In first place... A 9.2/10 and if I wrote for HJC it would be a COTW nom from me. Hey! I'm a poet and I didn't realize it!

"Team Starbucks" Fan Jersey [Dawn D. {My Mom}]

Ok, So my mom made this as a fan jersey, and this is her first (last) concept. I'm not going to harp upon execution errors since it was her first concept. I would like to point out a couple things about the design though. First thing, I would have used the Starbucks logo full size so it could be a "real" logo and not screen printed. I would have also removed the tan and replaced the brown with black, since it actually appears in the logo. A cool idea for a fan jersey, and not bad design for her first concept. Just shuffle/change some of the colors and you'll be set.

First fan jersey on HCI, could be improved to make it look better. A 4.5/10

(If anyone doesn't know what a fan jersey is, It's a jersey designed for fans to wear, but not for the team to wear on the ice.)

Did you enjoy today's post? Do you want more concepts and better quality ones than a Starbucks fan jersey? Send in everything! Logos, Jerseys, We will also post your jersey collection if you send a pic in!
That's all for today, Big announcements coming soon. See Ya!

College Classic Monday

Hello and welcome to a very special post. We've been seeing an onslaught of outdoor designs lately, with the Lake Erie Monsters and the Rochester Americans playing in the first outdoor game of the year, and my Pens unveiling their Stadium Series jersey, which I will get a Jokinen one of. In fact I'll post some pics of it when I get one (probably in January). As you can tell I like it, though if all the jersey are going to look something like that, creativity as you can see isn't high. My favorite part of it is the yoke.

Well anyway, this post is dedicated to all the college designs that have come in of late. And speaking of college designs! We have a new competition! Click here for more info.

Apple Cup (By Justin S.)
Justin starts us out with a nice event that he calls the Apple Cup, taking place it Washington, between two Washington teams. I like that it uses the very underused Under Armour template. Lets start out with the Huskies one. I love the colors and the logo choice was good. I like the striping but I feel that there should be some white in it, since there is some in the logo and numbers. I don't think that the shoulder patches are necessary, since the yoke striping is there. For the Cougars one, grey is an interesting choice, but I think it works. The wordmark looks good on a jersey, and it matches the striping and number outlines. I'm not sure about the name in red I'd make it white with a red outline. Concept Rating 7.9/10 (U of Wash. 8/10) (Wash State 7.8/10)

The Game (By Dylan W.)
Dylan gives us a great presentation with these, but we couldn't put it all on the blog, so check out his Sportslogos.net thread, it shows you everything from the tickets to in game mechindice. I like both logos, though I think Ohio State's should have a larger outline. The yokes are done well and so is the striping. I also like the Wonka V.S. McElroy bit that appeared on both of your concepts. I don't really have any complants so to the rating. Concept Rating 8.7/10 (Ohio State 8.9/10) (Michigan 8.5/10)

Hockey at Heinz (By Jake88/Me)
This was my entry into the competition. For Pitt, I did some yoke striping and arm striping that matches, while using a classic esque logo and font. For Syracuse I made an orange jersey (their name is the Orange could they have made it any easier?) with simple striping that doubles on the socks, a classic feature that I've always liked. For both jerseys, I lowered the numbers and put a patch in it's place.

The final part of this special post is even more special, we have the Fuel Comp. results in and here they are!

And your winner...

Congrats to Alan on his win, and I hope to see you next post!

Sunday: Wild Bruin day!

Hi Everyone Alan here for Sunday, and days away from Christmas. But enough of that, I have no jerseys review put together, so posting some concepts will cheer you all up. Now on to the concepts.

Indy Fuel comp results TOMMOROW.

Minnesota Wild Concept [by Matthew M.]
I'm going off the record and say I hate wheat, vintage, or any darker shade of white. But this wheat color was used smartly, it always fit this team, the stripes is well place on the right spot, not much red is being over used on this except on the road. The only thing I would like to change is on the road switch the red with green trim numbers to green with red trim. Beside that this should be what the Wild should be wearing. Nice work Matthew!

Boston Bruins concept [by me]
We'll take an wild blast from the past with my Boston Bruins concept from 2011. On the home and road I made it classic with more stripes on the yoke, change the "B" with more like classy, well more like using the old Oklahoma City Blazers logo. The alternate was pretty much badly put together  and rushed, use the bear from the team's alternate logo and place it inside the spoke. The jersey itself was not good, this is one of the reason of what happen if you don't take your time in making your concepts right.

Well that's today's post see you all tomorrow for your regular post, til then later.

Saturday: Penguin Day!

Howdy everyone it's me Alan here for another Saturday post here on HCI! Today we got 2 Penguins concepts base on the Stadium Series!

 Indy Fuel voting closes "TONIGHT!"

As speaking of Stadium Series, yesterday the Pens unveiled their jersey for their game against the Blackhawks, and I have to say it's look pretty good. I decide to give my quick review of the Pens Stadium Series.
Pictures from Sportslogos.net
Pictures from Sportslogos.net
Up Points: The yoke look weird, but creative. The Oilers style collar is an good idea. Finally the hem stripes looks nice.
Down Points: Chromed logo (not surprised.) Half stripes on the arms (also not surprised.) Tilted TV numbers, Why? Finally "what is up with the stretched numbers on the back?
Overall: Three things I got beef with, but still better then the team's current set that's for sure!
My Jersey Collection Rate: Buy it when it's on sale.

Last Sunday, I did an head to head post and everyone enjoy it, some question the match up, yes I did match an Europe team with an NHL team, but that's my first time of giving it an shot. Today there is two different versions of the Pittsburgh Penguins Stadium Series Concepts made by one artist, so I decide to put these two head to head to see if one is better then the Pens Stadium Series jersey, and one would make the team's current set (I hope not) look good, here we go.

Pittsburgh Penguins Stadium Series Concept Version 1 [Jeremy R.]
Up Points: Collar lace with the new style yoke is an good combo. Arm stripes that's go all the way around is an smart move.
Down Points: Vegas gold, and black on the side doesn't fit with this jersey to my taste. An single hem stripe looks plain. Vegas gold on arm sleeves doesn't fit to me for odd reason. Lastly grey numbers, and grey arm stripes with black trim just not my cup of tea.
My Suggestion: Make the vegas gold sleeves white with black wrist stripe. Switch the grey with vegas gold.

Pittsburgh Penguins Stadium Series Concept Version 2 [Jeremy R.]
Up Points: Collar lace with the new style yoke, including white trim on the yoke is an good combo. Arm stripes that's go all the way around is an smart move.
Down Points:  Black on the bottom side doesn't fit with this jersey to me. An single hem stripe looks bland. Lastly grey numbers, and grey arm stripes with black trim looks like it's blends with the vegas gold.
My Suggestion: Switch the greys with white.

Winner: Despite both jerseys got grey on it that doesn't fit with the jerseys, nor does the single hem stripes. But in the end I say the "Version 2" is the winner, this jersey could be potential be the Penguins alternate jerseys, if the team goes all vegas gold love.

Well that's today post, be here tomorrow for the Sunday post. Until then, later.

Friday: Earn Your Stripes

With another Friday upon us, it appears as though I may have had my last opportunity to network with a Hockey professional for a while. I'll elaborate on that in a little while. In the meantime, Matt McElroy has a few things in store for us today. But that won't be before the following major announcement:

Indy Fuel voting closes S-a-t-u-r-d-a-y night!

Chicago Blackhawks
Submitted by: Matt McElroy

Generally I always favor where the color is. But in this case, the road white looks the better of the two (the vintage white both helps and is appropriate on both). That's primarily for one reason - numbering. As minor as it is, for me it seems to make a big difference under these circumstances switch the number outline on the home red to the jersey color and add black numbers. It seemingly would be dumb for the TV numbers to match them so make the outline white up there if you bring the black numbers. After that, remove the hem coloring on both in the set and your golden. While I'm not fond of the logo, most people wouldn't notice unless there was a press conference on the updated branding as there isn't much difference.

Columbus Blue Jackets
Submitted by: Matt McElroy

Gray is a color that the Jackets (among select others) could pull off (Though I can never see it happen in hockey ever!). This is somewhat of an example. While I get a sense of New York Strangers, well they are just that when they come to play in Columbus, there are still many Blue Jacket elements. Those are fairly obvious, thus no need to mention it. Adding some striping to the pants could help, at the same time I don't usually like plain paints when their main color is brighter. I do like the addition of red to help the case of making this logo a regular feature on a set and is much welcomed, despite the lack of shoulder patches.

Dave Andrews
Submitted by: Ricky (Me)

This was what I was alluding to earlier. I made a presentation before my final in his class Wednesday as a gesture of returning the favor for him providing me the one of the first freshly produced AHL media guides for the upcoming season (I was the only one to receive a copy) just before the season started. I had to research his jersey number, which wasn't a necessarily traditional goalie number. He never actually played a game with this team, he was pretty much their president. His real title was under legendary then Edmonton GM Glen Sather as Director of Minor League Operations. This is as historically accurate as possible to my ability, which I think is spot on. But I wanted to share this piece not necessarily for critique as I didn't come up with the idea, but rather as a timepiece to look back at a no longer existent  AHL team.

With that, I close out this installment of HCI. Want to see your concepts here? Simply email hockeyconceptideas@gmail.com and your concepts are up fairly quickly. That may change over time, but it won't happen until more concepts come in. So don't delay and send in your content today!
